AI for Students
AI can be the most patient tutor you've ever had, or a way to hand in work you don't understand. Which one it becomes is up to how you use it.
Where AI genuinely helps
Explaining what you're stuck on
Ask for an explanation, then a simpler one, then an example. Keep asking until it clicks.
Practice questions
Generate quiz questions on your notes and test yourself before the exam does.
Feedback on your own draft
Ask what's unclear or unsupported in your essay — then fix it yourself.
Planning and structure
Breaking a big assignment into steps with deadlines is a great, low-risk use.
Where your judgment stays primary
Know your school's rules
Policies vary by school, course and even assignment. When in doubt, ask your teacher before using AI.
Disclose AI assistance — and do it well
Many schools require it. Good disclosure says which tool you used, what for ('to quiz me on chapter 3', 'to check my essay structure'), and confirms the ideas and final wording are yours. Keep your prompts in case you're asked.
It gets things wrong
AI invents sources and facts. Never cite something you haven't found and read yourself.
The point is your brain
If AI writes it, you didn't learn it — and the exam will notice.
Academic integrity and AI is a genuine, unsettled debate. Read the ethics hub.

Explain it three ways
I'm a [level] student and I don't understand [concept]. Explain it three ways: a simple analogy, a step-by-step explanation, and a worked example. Then ask me one question to check I've got it.
Quiz me on my notes
Here are my notes: [paste]. Quiz me one question at a time. Wait for my answer, tell me if I'm right, and explain anything I get wrong. Start easy and get harder.
Essay feedback (no rewriting)
Give me feedback on my essay draft below. Point out unclear arguments, claims without evidence, and structure problems. Do NOT rewrite any of it — I want to fix it myself. [paste draft]
Draft a disclosure statement
Help me write a short, honest AI-use disclosure for my assignment. I used [tool] to [what you used it for]. The ideas, research and final wording are my own. Keep it under 60 words.
