What it is best at

Gemini is the model that already lives where your work does. Inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive and Meet it has context nothing else can reach without you copy-pasting it there first. It is natively multimodal — video, audio, images and text go into the same model rather than being bolted on — and its context window is enormous, which makes whole-video and whole-repository analysis practical.

Where it pulls ahead

Grounding and integration. Answers can be tied to live Google Search results with citations, which cuts down on invention. Gemini is the only mainstream assistant that will happily watch an hour of video and answer questions about minute forty-two. For Workspace-heavy organisations, the integration alone outweighs small quality gaps elsewhere.

Honest trade-offs

Behaviour varies a lot between surfaces — the Gemini app, Workspace side panels and the API do not feel like the same product, and features arrive on each at different times. Safety filtering is the most aggressive of the big three and occasionally blocks benign requests. Naming and tier changes have been relentless enough to confuse even attentive users.
