Fix Figma Weave Generating Poor Quality Output
Updated 10/1/2026
When Figma Weave begins generating poor quality layouts, messy layers, or broken component structures, it is usually due to context bloat, hidden frame complexity, or cached session data. Because Weave analyzes your current selection and surrounding canvas context to generate designs, a cluttered file or overly complex parent frame can quickly degrade the quality of the model's output.
Follow these troubleshooting steps to clean up your canvas context, optimize your prompt parameters, and restore high-quality generations.
Why Figma Weave Quality Degrades
AI design generation models rely on clean, structured inputs to produce predictable outputs. The most common causes of quality regression in Figma Weave include:
- Canvas Noise: Too many unrelated layers, hidden groups, or draft components surrounding your active workspace.
- Excessive Nesting: Deeply nested Auto Layout frames that exceed the model's structural parsing limits.
- Context Drift: The model remembering previous bad generations or prompt attempts within the active file session.
- Outdated Variables: Mismatched style definitions or broken variable links in your active design library.
Steps to Fix Poor Quality Generation in Figma Weave
1. Isolate the Assets on a Clean Page Figma Weave processes nearby layers to understand your design system's style, typography, and spacing. If your current page contains old drafts, messy wireframes, or disconnected components, Weave will attempt to incorporate those conflicting styles.
- Create a completely blank page in your Figma file (+ icon in the Pages panel).
- Copy only the essential reference components or frames you want the model to use as inspiration.
- Paste them onto the clean page.
- Run the Figma Weave prompt on this isolated page to force the model to focus on a clean context.
2. Simplify and Flatten Nested Frames If Weave is generating broken layouts or failing to respect Auto Layout rules, the parent frame you selected may be too structurally complex.
- Select the frame you are using as the source or target.
- Look at the Layers panel. If you see more than four or five levels of nested groups or frames, simplify the hierarchy.
- Remove unnecessary group layers (Cmd + Shift + G on Mac, Ctrl + Shift + G on Windows).
- Convert standard groups to clean Auto Layout frames where possible, as Weave parses Auto Layout constraints much more accurately than absolute positioning.
3. Clear Local Storage and App Cache Accumulated session data can cause context drift, making the model sluggish or causing it to repeat previous design mistakes even when you change the prompt.
- For the Figma Desktop App (Mac):
- Close Figma completely.
- Open Finder, press Cmd + Shift + G, and paste: ~/Library/Application Support/Figma/
- Delete the Cache and Local Storage folders.
- Relaunch Figma and run your generation again.
- For the Figma Desktop App (Windows):
- Close Figma.
- Open the Start menu, type %APPDATA%\Figma, and press Enter.
- Delete the Cache and Local Storage folders.
- Relaunch Figma.
- For Browser Users:
- Clear your browser's cookies and site data for figma.com.
- Hard refresh the tab (Cmd + Shift + R or Ctrl + F5).
4. Provide Explicit Layout Constraints in Your Prompt When Weave's quality drops, it often struggles with ambiguity. Instead of using descriptive prompts (e.g., "Make a clean modern dashboard"), use structural and functional constraints.
- Bad Prompt: "Make a profile card with user info and a button."
- Good Prompt: "Generate a 320px wide profile card frame. Include a 48px circular avatar placeholder on the left, name and handle stacked vertically with 4px gap, and a primary button aligned to the right. Use Auto Layout with 16px padding."
5. Resync Your Design System Libraries If Weave is outputting incorrect colors, unlinked text styles, or broken components, it may be pulling cached or outdated library definitions.
- Go to the Assets tab in the left sidebar.
- Click the Libraries (book) icon.
- If any shared team libraries show pending updates, click Update All.
- If the library is already up to date, toggle the library off, wait 10 seconds, and toggle it back on to force a metadata refresh.
When to Escalate
If Weave continues to generate distorted, low-resolution, or completely broken structures after you have cleared your cache and isolated your layers on a blank page, the issue is likely an upstream model regression or server-side layout engine failure.
Check the official Figma Status page to see if there are any active incidents affecting AI features, plugins, or design generation systems. If services are normal, file a bug report via the Figma Help Center, making sure to include a console log export (Cmd + Option + I on Mac / Ctrl + Shift + I on Windows to open developer tools, then export the log console) showing any layout parsing errors.
