Fix: Figma Weave Plan Limit Reached Error
Updated 10/4/2026
If you are locked out of your collaborative workspace or blocked from generating assets because you have hit a Figma Weave plan limit, you do not necessarily need to upgrade your subscription immediately. These blocks usually occur when your team exceeds its allocated editor seats, reaches its monthly AI/generation token limits, or exceeds active file thresholds on Starter or Professional tiers.

Use this step-by-step guide to audit your account usage, free up active seats, clear old drafts, and resolve plan limit blocks.
1. Audit and downgrade user seats Often, a "plan limit reached" block occurs because guest collaborators or viewers were accidentally upgraded to paid "Editor" seats. Figma Weave automatically counts anyone with edit permissions on a Weave-enabled file as a paid seat.
- Log into your Figma account as an Admin or Owner.
- Navigate to your Admin Console or click your organization's name in the left-hand sidebar.
- Click on the Members tab.
- Filter the list of users by Weave Access or Design seat and sort by "Editor".
- Identify users who only need to view, comment, or inspect designs.
- Click the dropdown next to their permission level and change it to Viewer-restricted.
- Once your active editor count falls below your plan’s threshold, refresh Figma or restart your Weave environment to restore write access.
2. Archive or delete unused Weave files On Starter and legacy plans, Figma imposes a strict limit on the number of active projects and files that can utilize advanced Weave integrations.
- Go to your team workspace home screen.
- Look for projects labeled with Weave components or active developer pipelines.
- Open unused or historical files, click the file name dropdown at the top, and select Delete or move them to your personal Drafts section.
- Note that files in your personal drafts do not count toward your team's collaborative plan limits. However, if your personal draft folder itself has reached its file cap, you must permanently delete older drafts from your Deleted tab to clear the cache.
3. Check for billing soft locks and invoice holds Sometimes, a "plan limit reached" or "workspace locked" error is triggered not by usage volume, but by a billing transaction failure. When a recurring payment fails, Figma temporarily downgrades your team workspace to the Free Starter tier, which instantly triggers plan limit blocks on all your active Weave files.
- Open your team settings and click the Billing tab.
- Review your payment history for any marked as "Failed," "Pending," or "Overdue."
- If your credit card was recently replaced, click Update payment method to enter your new card details.
- Clear any outstanding balances. Once the payment processor clears the transaction, your tier limits will automatically adjust back to normal, unlocking your files within 5 to 10 minutes.
4. Clear cached API and generation tokens If you are using Figma Weave's developer SDK or automated API workflows, you may encounter plan limits if automated scripts are generating high volumes of calls. This can exhaust your daily or monthly generation quotas.
- If you are running automated Weave scripts, temporarily pause the cron jobs or background synchronization processes.
- Go to your Figma Account Settings and navigate to the Personal access tokens section.
- Revoke any active API tokens associated with deprecated Weave testing environments to prevent background calls from consuming your plan’s resource quota.
- Wait for the billing cycle hour boundary to reset, or distribute the workload across multiple developer profiles if permitted by your organization plan.
When to escalate If you have verified that your active seat count is within limits, your billing status is active, and you have cleaned up your workspace files but still see the "plan limit reached" error, the system may be experiencing a synchronization delay.
Contact your internal organization administrator first to check if an enterprise-wide cap has been configured on Weave tokens. If the issue persists, submit a request directly to Figma Support via your account console. Provide them with your Team ID, a screenshot of your active Members tab, and the exact error code displayed when Weave blocks your actions.
