Figma Weave Repeating Output: How to Fix Repetitive Loops

Updated 10/6/2026

When Figma Weave gets stuck in a loop—repeating the same CSS classes, repeating design tokens, or regenerating identical paragraphs of layout logic—it is experiencing a model behavior breakdown. This happens when the underlying transformer model falls into a self-reinforcement pattern, where its previous outputs bias its next predicted tokens too heavily.

Because Figma Weave parses both canvas geometry and text instructions, a repeating pattern in either your prompt or your layer structure can cause the generation engine to stall. Use this step-by-step guide to break the repetition loop and restore clean generation.

1. Flush the Local Context and Clear Session Cache

When Weave begins repeating itself, the loop is stored in its short-term memory (the active context window). Every new token it generates makes it more likely to repeat that same token again. Clearing this memory is the fastest way to resolve the issue.

  1. Close the active Weave panel or plugin window within Figma.
  2. Clear your Figma desktop app cache (on macOS, go to Finder > Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Application Support/Figma, then delete the Cache and Local Beta directories; on Windows, clear %APPDATA%\Local\Figma\WD).
  3. Reload the tab if you are running Figma in a browser (use Cmd + Shift + R on macOS or Ctrl + F5 on Windows to force a hard reload).
  4. Start a brand-new generation session. Do not attempt to continue the previous thread, as the repeating tokens in the history will continue to pull the model back into the loop.

2. Restructure Your Prompt to Limit Self-Referencing

Repetition loops are frequently triggered by ambiguous, overly repetitive, or circular prompts. If your prompt includes phrases like "Create a layout that has layout containers inside the layout," the model can easily lose track of its position in the generation chain.

  • Be explicit and non-repetitive: State your structural instructions once. Avoid repeating adjectives or structural nouns (e.g., instead of "make a blue button with blue text and a blue border," use "create a solid blue button with white text and a matching border").
  • Use delimiters: Wrap specific instructions, design system requirements, or variable lists in triple backticks (\\\) or XML-style tags (e.g., <style_guide>...</style_guide>`). This helps the model distinguish between context files and generation instructions, preventing it from repeating the context back to you.
  • Avoid double negatives: Phrase all prompt constraints positively. Instead of "Do not make it look like a list, and do not use bullet points," write "Format the output strictly as a side-by-side flexbox grid."

3. Optimize Generation Parameters via API or Developer Settings

If you are using Figma Weave through an API integration, a custom plugin, or developer tools, you can directly influence the model's likelihood of repeating itself by adjusting hyperparameters.

  1. Increase the Frequency Penalty: Set this value between 0.1 and 0.6. This parameter directly penalizes the model for repeating the exact same words or tokens based on their existing frequency in the generated text.
  2. Adjust the Presence Penalty: Increase this value slightly (e.g., to 0.2 or 0.4). This encourages the model to introduce completely new topics and vocabulary, breaking repetitive design patterns.
  3. Lower the Temperature: If your temperature is set extremely high (e.g., above 1.0), the model can become chaotic; if it is set too low (e.g., close to 0.0), it becomes highly deterministic and prone to repeating safe, high-probability phrases. Aim for a balanced temperature of 0.5 to 0.7 for layout tasks.

4. Simplify Figma Layer and Component Hierarchies

Figma Weave processes selected layers as structured node data. If your Figma canvas contains deeply nested, unnamed, or recursive frame hierarchies, Weave's parser can get confused, leading to looping output as it attempts to translate the canvas design into code.

  1. Inspect your selected frames. Ensure you do not have infinite nesting (e.g., a Frame containing a Frame containing the same Frame reference or duplicated component instances in a loop).
  2. Clean up layer names. Rename generic layers like "Frame 192837" to descriptive terms like "Primary Button" or "Navigation Wrapper."
  3. Flatten unused groups. If a layer hierarchy is purely visual and does not contribute to the structure, flatten it (Cmd + E or Ctrl + E) to reduce the amount of node metadata Weave has to ingest.

When to Escalate

If Figma Weave continues to generate looping or repetitive outputs across completely different files, empty canvases, and newly drafted prompts, this indicates a wider platform regression or a server-side model update issue. Check the official Figma status page to see if there are any active API or LLM infrastructure incidents. If status indicators are normal, report the regression to Figma Support by providing the specific layer inputs and prompt strings that triggered the loop.
