Figma Weave Showing Free Plan After Upgrade: Fix Guide

Updated 10/8/2026

If you have recently upgraded your Figma subscription to access premium Figma Weave capabilities, you may occasionally find that the system still flags your account as being on the "Free" or "Starter" tier. This usually occurs due to delayed subscription provisioning, misallocated user seats, or stale authentication tokens cached in your browser or Figma Desktop App.

Follow these troubleshooting steps to force your workspace to recognize your paid Figma Weave subscription.

1. Verify your active workspace and account identity Figma accounts often belong to multiple workspaces or organizations. A common cause of this error is using the correct account but working inside the incorrect team workspace.

  1. Open Figma and look at the top-left corner of the sidebar.
  2. Click on your profile name to open the workspace switcher dropdown.
  3. Verify which workspace is currently active. If you are in your "Personal" or "Starter" workspace, Figma Weave will run on free limits.
  4. Click on the specific upgraded Team or Organization workspace where the billing change was applied.
  5. Try running Figma Weave within a file located inside that specific team project directory.

2. Hard refresh your session and clear local cache Figma stores subscription states locally in session tokens. If you upgraded while the Figma application or browser tab was active, the authorization header may not update automatically.

If using Figma in a web browser: 1. Log out of your Figma account entirely by clicking your profile icon and choosing **Log out**. 2. Press `Ctrl + Shift + R` (Windows) or `Cmd + Shift + R` (Mac) to perform a hard refresh and clear the page cache. 3. Clear your browser’s cookies and site data for `figma.com`. 4. Log back in and test your Weave access.

If using the Figma Desktop App: 1. Click on the **Figma** menu in the top-left corner (on Windows, click the Figma icon; on Mac, use the system menu bar). 2. Navigate to **Help** > **Troubleshooting**. 3. Click **Clear Cache and Restart**. 4. Once the app reloads, log back in. This forces the desktop app to request a fresh authentication handshake containing your updated billing metadata.

3. Assign your Figma Weave paid seat in Admin Settings Even if your organization paid for the upgrade, team administrators must manually assign paid seats to individual members. If your seat is marked as "Viewer-restricted" or "Starter," you will still see the upgrade prompt.

  1. Go to your Figma File Browser homepage.
  2. Select your upgraded Team or Organization on the left sidebar.
  3. Click the Members tab in the main pane.
  4. Locate your own username in the list.
  5. Check the status under the seat column. If your role is set to "Viewer" or "Free," change it to a paid Design or Dev seat, or verify that the specific Weave feature-set toggle is enabled for your profile.
  6. Note: Only team admins or owners can change seat allocations. If you are not an administrator, request that your team admin perform this step.

4. Resolve pending payments or invoice holds If Figma attempted to charge your card for the upgrade but met a payment processor delay, your plan status might revert immediately back to the Free tier. This commonly happens with banks requiring 3D Secure verification.

  1. Navigate to the top-left menu, select your team, and click the Settings tab.
  2. Scroll down to the Billing section and click Manage Billing.
  3. Look for any active banners indicating "Payment Declined" or "Invoice Pending."
  4. If a payment is stuck in processing, update the payment method or re-authorize the charge directly with your credit card issuer to clear the billing hold.

When to escalate If your billing dashboard shows that your payment was fully cleared, your seat is correctly set to "Paid," and you have cleared your cache but still see the "Free Plan" error, there is likely a backend provisioning failure.

Gather your Invoice ID (found in your billing history), your Workspace URL, and your User Account ID (accessible via your account settings page). Contact Figma Support via their billing ticket portal, noting that you have already verified seat assignments and performed a full cache clear. Do not share payment credentials over public forums or tickets.
