Figma Weave Stuck on Generating: Fix Infinite Loading
Updated 9/24/2026
If you are using Figma Weave to generate layouts, assets, or process real-time multiplayer data, getting stuck on a "generating" screen or receiving blank responses is a frustrating disruptor. This issue typically stems from a breakdown in WebSocket communication, a corrupted local application cache, or localized server-side timeouts on Figma’s generation nodes.
Use this guide to diagnose why Figma Weave is stuck and restore your workflow.
Step 1: Check Figma's Service Status Before modifying your local setup, verify if Figma is experiencing a platform-wide outage. Weave relies on specialized GPU and multiplayer generation clusters that can go offline independently of the main editor canvas.
- Visit the official status.figma.com page.
- Look specifically for Design Systems, Multiplayer, or Figma AI / Weave service degradation reports.
- Check public community hubs like Downdetector or the Figma forum to see if other designers are reporting identical "stuck on generating" behavior.
If a service disruption is listed, local troubleshooting will not resolve the issue. You must wait for Figma's infrastructure team to deploy a fix.
Step 2: Perform a Hard Reload and Clear Cache Corrupted browser or app cache is the most common reason Figma Weave gets stuck in an infinite generation loop. Clearing this cache forces Figma to download the latest client-side scripts.
If using the Figma Desktop App on macOS: 1. Open the Figma Desktop App. 2. Click **Figma** in the top menu bar. 3. Select **Preferences** > **Clear Cache and Restart**. 4. If the menu is unresponsive, open Finder, press `Cmd + Shift + G`, and paste: `~/Library/Application Support/Figma/`. 5. Delete all folders inside this directory and restart the app.
If using the Figma Desktop App on Windows: 1. Close Figma completely. 2. Press `Windows Key + R` to open the Run dialog box. 3. Type `%APPDATA%\Figma` and press Enter. 4. Delete all folders and files located inside this directory. 5. Relaunch Figma and attempt to run the generation process again.
If using Figma in a Web Browser: 1. Hard-refresh the page by pressing `Ctrl + F5` (Windows) or `Cmd + Shift + R` (macOS). 2. If the generation is still stuck, clear your browser’s site data for `figma.com` via your browser's security settings panel, then log back in.
Step 3: Inspect for WebSocket and Port Blocks Figma Weave uses continuous WebSockets to stream real-time generations directly to your canvas. If your local network, VPN, or firewall blocks these persistent connections, the generation engine will hang indefinitely.
- Open your browser or Figma's developer console by pressing Cmd + Option + I (macOS) or Ctrl + Shift + I (Windows).
- Select the Console tab.
- Look for red connection errors, specifically those referencing wss:// (WebSocket) addresses or 502/503/504 Gateway Timeouts.
- If you see connection timeout errors, temporarily disable your VPN, custom DNS, or proxy server.
- Check if your corporate firewall blocks port 443 or dynamic WebSockets, and contact your network administrator if necessary.
Step 4: Isolate the File and Reduce Complexity Occasionally, a complex vector structure, massive nested components, or corrupted page geometry inside a specific Figma file can cause Weave to crash or timeout during generation.
- Create a brand-new, completely blank Figma file.
- Run Figma Weave in this new file using a very simple prompt or structure.
- If it generates successfully, the issue is isolated to your original working file.
- In your original file, duplicate the frame you are working on, delete any heavy nested layers, and try running the generation again on the simplified frame.
Step 5: Toggle Hardware Acceleration If your local graphics card cannot render the generation previews generated by Weave, the UI may appear stuck on a blank or loading state.
- In your browser (Chrome/Edge/Safari), go to your browser settings.
- Search for Use graphics acceleration when available (or Hardware Acceleration).
- Toggle this setting off, restart your browser, and test.
- If using the Figma desktop app, ensure your system's graphics drivers (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) are updated to the latest stable release.
When to escalate If you have cleared your cache, verified that Figma's status page reports normal operations, and confirmed that Weave fails to generate even in a completely blank file, you should escalate the issue.
Submit a support request to the Figma Help Center. When submitting, include your OS version, browser version, and export a copy of your Console Log (Save as... from the developer console) captured while the generation tool was actively stuck.
