Figma Weave Subscription Not Upgrading Fix

Updated 10/2/2026

When attempting to upgrade your Figma Weave plan—whether moving from a free tier to a professional tier or purchasing additional seats—the upgrade process can sometimes fail silently or get stuck in an endless loading loop. This issue is usually tied to permission mismatches, regional payment restrictions, or localized browser conflicts.

Follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the upgrade failure and activate your Figma Weave subscription.

1. Verify Your Account Permissions Figma Weave subscriptions are tied directly to Figma's team and organization billing structures. If your account lacks the necessary administrative privileges, the upgrade checkout process will fail or display a permission error.

  1. Log in to your Figma account and navigate to the File Browser.
  2. Select your team from the left sidebar.
  3. Click the Members tab at the top.
  4. Locate your name and check your role. To initiate billing changes, your role must be set to Team Admin or Owner (or Billing Admin in Organization/Enterprise plans).
  5. If you are configured as an Editor or Viewer, ask a current Team Admin to upgrade your permissions or complete the checkout on your behalf.

2. Bypass Browser Cache and Extension Interference Security extensions, ad blockers, and outdated tracking cookies frequently interfere with Figma’s payment processor (Stripe). This causes the billing verification popup to fail to load.

  1. Open a new Incognito or Private Browsing window in your web browser.
  2. Go to the Figma website, sign in, and attempt the upgrade process again. If this works, the issue is caused by a browser extension.
  3. If using your standard browser, disable any active ad blockers, script blockers (like NoScript), or privacy-focused extensions (such as Privacy Badger) temporarily.
  4. Clear your browser cache and cookies specifically for figma.com before retrying the checkout.

3. Resolve 3D Secure (3DS) and Regional Payment Failures Figma processes payments internationally. Many banks automatically block these transactions under fraud prevention rules, especially if they require 3D Secure (multi-factor authentication) and the popup fails to trigger.

  1. Contact your bank or credit card issuer. Ask if there are pending authorizations from Figma Inc. or if an international/cross-border payment block is active on your card.
  2. Ensure your card supports automatic recurring billing. Prepaid cards, virtual cards, and some debit cards do not support recurring subscription models and will be rejected automatically.
  3. If your bank requires 3D Secure verification, ensure your browser allows popups. Look for a blocked popup icon in your address bar during checkout and click "Always allow."

4. Align Seat Quantities and Co-Terming Settings If you are trying to upgrade a team that already has active users, Figma Weave requires you to pay for all existing design/editor seats. A mismatch here can block the checkout process.

  1. Navigate to your Team's Settings tab.
  2. Check the number of active Editors listed on your team.
  3. During the upgrade flow, ensure the selected seat count matches or exceeds the number of active Editors. Figma will not allow you to purchase a plan for fewer seats than you currently have active.
  4. If necessary, downgrade extra editors to Viewer status to reduce the seat count before attempting the upgrade again.

5. Resolve Unpaid Invoices or Outstanding Balances Figma prevents subscription changes or tier upgrades if your account has an outstanding balance on any linked team or project.

  1. Go to your Admin Console or Team Settings.
  2. Select the Billing tab.
  3. Look for any flagged alerts indicating a failed payment or an outstanding invoice.
  4. Update your primary payment method to clear any past-due balance. Once the outstanding invoice is settled, the billing portal will unlock, allowing you to upgrade your Weave subscription.

When to Escalate If you have confirmed your permissions, cleared your browser cache, verified with your bank, and the checkout still fails, the issue is likely an internal billing lock on Figma’s side.

Collect the following information before contacting support: * The exact error message displayed during checkout (or a screenshot of the blank screen). * The name and URL of the Figma team you are attempting to upgrade. * The email address associated with your billing profile. * Confirmation that your bank has approved the transaction on their end.

Submit a ticket through the Figma Help Center under the "Billing and Accounts" category for manual provisioning.
