Fix: Gemini Admin Disabled This Service Error

Updated 10/11/2026

If you try to log into Google Gemini (gemini.google.com) using a work, school, or organization email address, you may encounter an error stating that the service is disabled, not available for your account, or blocked by your administrator. This occurs because managed Google Workspace accounts do not have access to Gemini by default.

To resolve this issue, you must configure your Google Workspace administrator settings to allow access or use an alternative login method. Below is a comprehensive guide to troubleshooting and fixing this access block.

1. Verify Your Account Type Before changing any settings, confirm whether your active session is using a managed Google Workspace account. 1. Open a web browser and go to [gemini.google.com](https://gemini.google.com). 2. Click your profile picture or initial in the top-right corner of the page. 3. Look at the active email address displayed. If it ends in a custom domain (e.g., `@yourcompany.com` or `@school.edu`) rather than `@gmail.com`, you are currently signed in to a managed organization account. 4. If the account is managed, your IT department or Google Workspace administrator has direct control over which applications you can access, including Gemini.

2. Enable Gemini via Google Workspace Admin Console (For Admins) If you are the IT administrator for your organization, you must explicitly turn on Gemini for your users to allow them access. 1. Log in to the [Google Admin Console](https://admin.google.com) using your administrator credentials. 2. From the left-hand navigation menu, go to **Apps** > **Additional Google services**. 3. Scroll down the list of services to find **Gemini** (on older admin panels, this may still be listed under its former name, "Bard"). 4. Click on **Service status**. 5. To enable it for your entire organization, select **ON for everyone**, then click **Save**. 6. To enable it only for specific departments, select an **Organizational Unit (OU)** on the left panel, change its status to **ON**, and click **Override** or **Save**. *Note: Google Workspace policy updates can take up to 24 hours to propagate across all users in the domain.*

3. Configure Gemini Business or Enterprise Licenses If your organization uses paid Gemini add-ons (such as Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise), simply enabling the service in "Additional Google services" may not be enough. You must assign the correct licenses to your users. 1. In the Google Admin Console, navigate to **Directory** > **Users**. 2. Click on the name of the user who cannot access Gemini. 3. Scroll down to the **Licenses** section and click it to expand. 4. Ensure that the toggle for **Gemini Business** or **Gemini Enterprise** is turned **ON**. 5. Click **Save**.

4. Adjust Age-Based Access Settings Google automatically blocks Gemini for users designated as under 18 years old within Google Workspace for Education or standard Workspace domains. If your users are adults but marked incorrectly, Gemini will remain disabled. 1. In the Google Admin Console, go to **Account** > **Account settings** > **Age-based access settings**. 2. Select the organizational unit you want to configure. 3. Under "Access to additional Google services without individual control," ensure that the group is designated as **All users are 18 or older** (if applicable). 4. Click **Save**. *Warning: Do not mark underage students as 18 or older, as this violates Google's terms of service and local safety regulations.*

5. Use a Personal Account Bypass If you are an employee or student and your IT administrator refuses to enable Gemini due to corporate policy or data privacy restrictions, you cannot bypass the block using your work or school email. You must use a personal account. 1. Open your web browser and sign out of your work Google account entirely. 2. Alternatively, open an Incognito/Private window, or create a dedicated personal Chrome profile to prevent account collision. 3. Go to [gemini.google.com](https://gemini.google.com). 4. Sign in using a standard, personal `@gmail.com` account. 5. If your personal account is managed via Family Link (under age 13, or the applicable age in your country), the account parent/guardian must log in to their Family Link dashboard to approve Gemini access manually.

When to Escalate If you are an end-user and the steps above do not resolve the issue, you must contact your company's IT Helpdesk or systems administrator. Only they have the administrative privileges required to modify domain-level policies.

If you are the Google Workspace Administrator, have verified that the service is set to "ON for everyone," have assigned appropriate licenses, and users still receive the "disabled" error after 24 hours, escalate the issue to Google Workspace Support through your Admin Console under the Support menu.
