Fix: Gemini Is Not Available for This Account
Updated 10/5/2026
The error message "Gemini is not available for this account" typically appears when you try to access Google Gemini using a managed Google Workspace account (such as one provided by your employer or school) or if your Google account profile does not meet the minimum age requirements.
Because Google restricts access to its AI tools based on administrator settings and age-verification laws, resolving this issue requires configuring your account permissions or switching to an unmanaged account. Follow these step-by-step methods to restore access.
1. Check if you are using a Workspace or School account
If your email address ends in anything other than @gmail.com, you are likely using a managed Google Workspace account. By default, Google disables Gemini for corporate and educational domains unless an administrator explicitly turns it on.
- Look at the top right corner of your browser or Google page to see which account is currently active.
- If you are signed in with a work or school email, open a new private browsing window (Incognito mode).
- Go to [gemini.google.com](https://gemini.google.com) and log in using a personal @gmail.com address.
- If the tool loads successfully, the block is specific to your organization’s domain policies.
2. Enable Gemini in the Workspace Admin Console
If you are the administrator of your organization's Google Workspace, you must manually enable access to Additional Google Services. Users cannot bypass this restriction on their own.
- Log in to the [Google Admin Console](https://admin.google.com) using your administrator credentials.
- In the left-hand navigation menu, click Apps, then select Additional Google services.
- Scroll down the list of services to locate Gemini (or Early Access Apps in older console layouts).
- Click on the service name to open its settings.
- Click Service status and change the setting to ON for everyone or select specific Organizational Units (OUs) that require access.
- Click Save.
*Note: It can take up to 24 hours for policy changes in the Google Admin Console to propagate to all users in your organization.*
3. Verify your Google Account age settings
Google requires users to be of a certain age to access Gemini. In most countries, the minimum age to use standard Gemini is 13, but Gemini Advanced and specific regional policies require you to be at least 18 years old.
- Navigate to your [Google Account Personal Info page](https://myaccount.google.com/personal-info).
- Verify that your Birthday is correct. If it is set incorrectly, update it to reflect your real age.
- If your account is managed via Google Family Link, the parent account holder must review and approve access to experimental Google services.
- If Google requires age verification to unlock AI services, go to [g.co/verifyage](https://g.co/verifyage) and upload a valid government ID or credit card to verify that you are over 18.
4. Resolve School Account (Google for Education) blocks
Google completely restricts Gemini access for accounts designated as Primary or Secondary education users (K-12 accounts) due to student privacy regulations (such as COPPA and FERPA).
- If you are a student using a school-issued account, your school's administration cannot turn this feature on for you.
- You must log out of your school account entirely, or use a separate browser profile dedicated to your personal Google account to access Gemini.
5. Clean browser cookies and session states
Sometimes, even after logging out of a restricted account, your browser retains session data that tells Gemini you are still using the blocked domain.
- Click the lock icon next to the URL in your browser's address bar while on gemini.google.com.
- Select Site settings or Cookies and site data.
- Click Clear data or delete all listed cookies for the domain.
- Restart your browser, go back to Gemini, and sign in exclusively with your personal Gmail account.
When to escalate
If you have verified that your account is a personal @gmail.com account, your age is confirmed as over 18, and you are not using a VPN routing through a restricted country, but you still receive this error, submit a report via the Google Account Help Community. If you are paying for a Google One AI Premium plan and cannot access the service, contact Google One Support directly through the Google One app or website for billing-related account overrides.
