Grok Can't Sign In with X Account: How to Fix Login Loops
Updated 10/5/2026
Because Grok is deeply integrated with X (formerly Twitter), your login credentials and access rights are managed directly through X's authentication servers. If there is a mismatch in your subscription status, a corrupt browser session, or an API handshake failure, you will get stuck in a login loop, see a blank screen, or receive authentication error messages.
Use these step-by-step troubleshooting instructions to resolve X-to-Grok sign-in issues.
1. Verify X Premium subscription status and account state Grok requires an active X Premium or Premium+ subscription. If your billing cycle fails, your access is immediately suspended.
- Open a new tab, navigate to X.com, and log into your profile.
- Navigate to Settings and privacy > Premium.
- Check your subscription status. If your payment failed, update your payment method immediately to restore Grok access.
- Check your notifications or email. If your X account is locked, shadowbanned, or flagged for security verification (such as completing a CAPTCHA or verifying your phone number), the Grok portal will block your login attempts until the X account restriction is cleared.
2. Force-clear cookies for both X.com and x.ai Because Grok operates across both the `x.com` and `x.ai` domains, a corrupt token or cookie on either site can break the OAuth login flow, causing infinite redirects.
If you are using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge: 1. Open your browser and navigate to the Grok portal page. 2. Click the padlock or tune icon on the left side of the address bar. 3. Click Site settings or Cookies and site data. 4. Select Manage on-device site data or click Clear data / Clear cookies. 5. Do the exact same process on X.com. 6. Restart your browser completely, navigate to the Grok page, and try signing in again.
3. Revoke and re-authorize Grok's application permissions Sometimes the connection between your X profile and the Grok application becomes corrupted. Revoking the application access forces a clean, secure API handshake on your next login attempt.
- Log into your account on X.com via a desktop browser.
- Go to Settings and privacy (click "More" in the sidebar first if on desktop).
- Select Security and account access > Apps and sessions.
- Click on Connected apps.
- Locate Grok or xAI in the list of authorized applications.
- Click on it and select Revoke app permissions.
- Go back to the Grok login page (grok.com or the X sidebar link) and click sign in. You will be prompted to re-authorize the application. Accept the permissions to rebuild the sync.
4. Disable strict tracking protection and ad-blockers Privacy badger extensions, script blockers, and built-in browser tracking protections (like Brave's Shields or Safari's Private Relay) often block cross-domain scripts. Because Grok must pass an authentication token from `x.com` to `x.ai`, these security tools can drop the token, resulting in a failed login.
- Temporarily disable any active ad-blockers (such as uBlock Origin or Adblock Plus) for both x.com and x.ai.
- If using Brave, lower the Brave Shields for both domains.
- If using Safari, go to Settings > Privacy and temporarily uncheck Prevent cross-site tracking.
- Reload the page and attempt to sign in.
5. Bypass local network and browser issues If the issue persists, isolate whether the problem lies with your local network configurations (like DNS routing) or browser configuration.
- Try Incognito / Private Window: This bypasses all installed extensions and cached local data. If login works here, an extension or a deep-rooted cache file is causing the block.
- Switch Networks: Disconnect from your local Wi-Fi and connect your device to a mobile hotspot. If you can log in, your router's firewall, local DNS server, or ISP is blocking xAI's authentication endpoints.
- Use a Different Browser: If you are using Safari, try Firefox or Chrome. Some webkit-specific security updates occasionally break X's OAuth redirects.
When to escalate If you have confirmed your X Premium subscription is active, your account has no security restrictions, and you have cleared all local caches but still cannot sign in, the issue lies on the server side.
Since xAI does not run a dedicated billing or account management platform independent of X, you must escalate the issue through X Premium Support. Go to the X Help Center, select Premium Subscriptions, and submit a ticket indicating that your account is failing to authenticate with third-party connected applications.
