How to Fix Grok Login Redirect Loop
Updated 10/8/2026
When you try to log into Grok or the xAI Developer Console, the platform relies on OAuth 2.0 to authenticate your identity through your X (formerly Twitter) account. If this handshake fails, you will find yourself stuck in a login redirect loop—where clicking the login button repeatedly refreshes the page, returns you to the login screen, or displays a blank screen.
This behavior is almost always caused by a breakdown in cross-domain communication between x.com, grok.com, and x.ai. Below is a step-by-step guide to troubleshooting and fixing the Grok login redirect loop.
Step 1: Enable cross-site tracking and third-party cookies
Because Grok and X operate on different domains, your browser must allow cross-site tracking and third-party cookies to complete the authentication loop. If your browser blocks these, the login token cannot pass from X to Grok.
- On Google Chrome: Click the three dots in the top-right corner > Settings > Privacy and security > Third-party cookies. Ensure "Block third-party cookies" is turned off, or add [*.]x.ai and [*.]grok.com to your "Allowed to use third-party cookies" list.
- On Apple Safari (macOS & iOS): Go to Settings > Safari > Privacy. Uncheck Prevent Cross-Site Tracking. Safari's "Block All Cookies" setting must also be disabled.
- On Brave Browser: Click the Brave Shield icon in the address bar while on the Grok page and toggle the shields off to allow the redirect scripts to run.
Step 2: Clear cache and site-specific storage
Corrupted cache files or mismatched active sessions on X can break the login flow. Clearing the local storage specifically for xAI and X forces the browser to pull clean configuration scripts.
- Open your browser and navigate to the Grok or xAI login page.
- Click the lock icon to the left of the URL in the address bar.
- Select Site settings or Cookies and site data.
- Click Manage on-device site data or Clear data to wipe all cookies and local storage for the domain.
- Navigate to x.com and repeat this process to ensure you are logged out of your primary X account as well.
- Restart your browser and attempt to log in again.
Step 3: Disable security and privacy extensions
Privacy-focused browser extensions, script blockers, and aggressive ad blockers often mistake OAuth redirects for tracking attempts and block them automatically.
- Temporarily disable extensions like uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, Ghostery, or NoScript.
- Disable any built-in browser security suites, such as Firefox's Enhanced Tracking Protection (set it to "Standard" instead of "Strict").
- Reload the page and click the login button. If the login succeeds, whitelist grok.com, x.ai, and x.com in your extension settings before re-enabling them.
Step 4: Revoke and re-authorize xAI in X settings
If the connection between your X account and the Grok platform becomes corrupted on the backend, revoking the application's access permission forces X to generate a new security token upon your next login attempt.
- Log into your account on x.com directly.
- Navigate to Settings and privacy > Security and account access > Apps and sessions.
- Click on Connected apps.
- Locate xAI or Grok in the list of authorized applications.
- Click Revoke app permissions.
- Return to grok.com or the xAI Console, click login, and grant permission to the app when prompted.
Step 5: Test on a different network and DNS
Certain network configurations, DNS filters (like NextDNS or Pi-hole), or VPNs block the specific authentication API endpoints used during the handshake.
- Disconnect from your VPN or proxy server.
- Temporarily switch your device from your local Wi-Fi to a mobile hotspot.
- If using a custom DNS provider, temporarily change your device's network settings to use Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1).
When to escalate
If you have completed all of the troubleshooting steps and still find yourself stuck in a loop, the issue may be a backend account mismatch. This frequently happens if your X subscription has recently expired, failed to renew, or is undergoing an account verification check (such as a pending blue checkmark review).
If your X Premium account is fully active but the loop persists, you will need to contact X Support directly through the Help Center on your X profile. Provide them with your account handle and specify that your X OAuth token is failing to authenticate on external xAI portals.
