Grok Showing Blank Screen: 5 Ways to Fix It
Updated 10/3/2026
When you attempt to access Grok and are met with a completely blank screen—either pure white or solid black depending on your theme—it indicates that your browser has failed to load the user interface assets. Unlike a standard server error that displays an error code (such as 500 or 503), a blank screen usually means the site's underlying JavaScript files failed to execute, or your local session data is corrupted.
Use this step-by-step troubleshooting guide to clear out bad data, rule out platform-wide outages, and restore access to the interface.
1. Verify If Grok or X (Twitter) is Experiencing an Outage Because Grok is deeply integrated with the X platform, any outage affecting X's media servers, Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), or API gateways can cause the Grok interface to fail to render.
- Check the X status: Look for posts from the official @grok or @xai accounts on X, or search the hashtag #GrokDown to see if other users are reporting identical issues.
- Use third-party trackers: Check platforms like Downdetector for spikes in reports for X (Twitter) or xAI.
- Inspect the browser console: Press F12 (or right-click and select Inspect), then click the Console tab. If you see numerous red error messages pointing to failed resource loads (e.g., 404 Not Found or Failed to load resource: net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED), xAI's hosting servers are likely experiencing a temporary outage.
2. Force a Hard Refresh Standard browser refreshes often load pages from your local browser cache. If a corrupted file was cached during a brief network hiccup, a normal refresh won't fix it. You must force the browser to redownload the page assets directly from the server.
- Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge / Brave (Windows): Press Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R.
- Safari (Mac): Hold Shift and click the Reload button in the address bar, or press Cmd + Option + E to empty the cache, then Cmd + R to reload.
- Mozilla Firefox (Windows/Mac): Press Ctrl + F5 (Windows) or Shift + Cmd + R (Mac).
3. Clear Local Storage and Site Cookies If a hard refresh does not work, corrupted login tokens or configuration settings in your browser's local storage may be blocking the UI from rendering.
- In your browser, navigate to the page where Grok is failing to load.
- Click the padlock or tune icon on the left side of the URL address bar.
- Click Site settings or Cookies and site data (depending on your browser).
- Select Manage cookies and site data (or Clear data).
- Click Remove All or delete the entries specifically for x.com and xai.com.
- Restart your browser and log back in to attempt to reload Grok.
4. Disable Aggressive Ad-Blockers and Privacy Shields Grok relies on complex scripts to establish WebSocket connections and load dynamic AI elements. Overly aggressive ad-blockers, tracking blockers, or built-in browser shields (like Brave Shields) can misidentify these scripts as trackers and block them, resulting in a blank page.
- Temporarily disable your ad-blocker extension (such as uBlock Origin or AdBlock Plus) for x.com or xai.com.
- If you are using Brave, click the Brave Shield icon in the address bar and toggle it to Down (disabled).
- Reload the page. If the interface loads, you will need to whitelist xAI and X domains within your extension settings.
5. Test in Private Browsing / Incognito Mode To quickly isolate whether browser extensions, custom styles, or corrupted cache are causing the blank screen, open an Incognito or Private window.
- If Grok loads perfectly in Incognito mode, the issue is definitely caused by an extension, a cached cookie, or a localized browser setting. You will need to disable your extensions one by one in your normal browser window to identify the culprit.
- If Grok still loads as a blank screen in Incognito mode, the problem lies with your local network, your DNS configuration, or a wider server-side issue at xAI.
When to Escalate If you have cleared your browser data, disabled all extensions, tried multiple browsers, and Grok still renders a blank screen, the issue is likely a server-side bug or account-specific sync issue.
Because xAI does not offer a traditional direct email helpdesk for end-users, you should report the issue by tagging @Premium or @xai on X with a screenshot of the blank screen and your browser's console logs. For billing-related issues tied to the blank screen, check your active subscription status on your X account settings page.
