Midjourney Bot Not Responding? 5 Ways to Fix
Updated 10/10/2026
If the Midjourney bot is not responding to your prompts, stops generating images midway, or displays a silent failure in Discord, you are likely facing an outage, a permission conflict, or a stuck job queue. Because Midjourney relies heavily on Discord infrastructure alongside its own web application, troubleshooting requires isolating whether the issue is on your end, Discord's end, or Midjourney's GPU clusters.
Use these sequential troubleshooting steps to get your generations moving again.
1. Check Midjourney and Discord Server Status Before changing any local settings or server configurations, verify if Midjourney or its host platform is experiencing a system-wide outage.
- Check the Midjourney Status Page: Go to the official status site or check the #member-status channel in the official Midjourney Discord server for real-time announcements regarding database migrations or GPU cluster maintenance.
- Check Discord Status: Visit discordstatus.com. If Discord's API, gateway, or media delivery networks are degraded, the Midjourney bot cannot receive your /imagine prompts or return completed images.
- Identify Gateway Errors: If you see HTTP 500, 502, or 503 errors when trying to load your Midjourney gallery or execute a web command, the backend is temporarily offline. You must wait for the engineering team to deploy a hotfix.
2. Verify Channel and Bot Permissions If the status pages are green but the bot still ignores your commands on your private Discord server, your server's permission structure may be blocking the bot.
- Inspect Channel Permissions: Go to your channel settings. Ensure the Midjourney Bot role has "Read Messages", "Send Messages", "Use Application Commands", and "Embed Links" permissions enabled.
- Test Direct Messages: Try sending a direct message (DM) to the Midjourney Bot. If the bot responds to /imagine in your DMs but not in your server, the issue is restricted to your server's configuration.
- Check Discord Privacy Settings: If the bot won't respond in DMs, go to your Discord User Settings > Privacy & Safety, and ensure "Allow direct messages from server members" is toggled on.
3. Clear Stuck Jobs and Check Fast Hours A completely unresponsive bot can occur when your active job queue is locked by a corrupted generation task or a billing issue.
- Check Account Status: Type /info in your chat bar and press Enter. This command bypasses the standard generation queue. If the bot responds, your connection is active.
- Review Fast Hours: In the /info readout, check your remaining Fast Hours. If you run out of Fast hours and have not enabled Relax mode, your jobs will fail to start without a descriptive error.
- Switch Modes: If you suspect a queue freeze in Relax mode during high-traffic periods, type /fast to switch modes and force your next prompt to the front of the GPU queue.
4. Troubleshoot Web App and Portal Outages If you are using the Midjourney Web Editor (midjourney.com) instead of the Discord interface and generations won't load, use these web-specific fixes:
- Perform a Hard Refresh: Bypass cached scripts by pressing Ctrl + F5 (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + R (Mac).
- Disable Interfering Extensions: Temporarily turn off ad-blockers, script-blockers, or VPNs. These frequently block the WebSockets that Midjourney uses to stream real-time image generation updates to your browser.
- Inspect the Console: Press F12 to open your browser's Developer Tools and select the Console tab. If you see persistent 502 Bad Gateway or 429 Rate Limit errors, the web portal is struggling under heavy load.
5. Kick and Re-Invite the Bot If the Midjourney Bot is present in your server but completely frozen, kicking and re-authorizing the application can resolve silent connection drops.
- Open your Discord server's member list on the right side of the screen.
- Locate the Midjourney Bot, right-click its name, and select Kick Midjourney Bot.
- Navigate to the official Midjourney Discord server, click on the Midjourney Bot in the user list, and click Add App (or Add to Server) to re-invite it with fresh permissions.
