Midjourney Login Not Working: How to Fix Authentication

Updated 9/24/2026

Midjourney uses Discord's single sign-on (SSO) protocol to handle all account creation and authentication. Because Midjourney does not manage traditional passwords directly, login failures are almost always caused by a synchronization breakdown between your web browser, the Discord client, and Midjourney's web portal.

If you are stuck in a login loop, receiving authorization errors, or getting redirected back to the home page without being logged in, follow these troubleshooting steps to restore access.

1. Clear Your Browser's Discord and Midjourney Cookies Stored session data often corrupts authentication attempts, causing a loop where the browser cannot verify your identity. Clearing cookies specifically for both sites resolves most login issues.

  1. In your browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox), click the lock icon in the address bar when visiting midjourney.com.
  2. Select Cookies and site data (or Site settings), then choose Manage on-device site data.
  3. Delete all cookies associated with midjourney.com.
  4. Repeat this exact process for discord.com.
  5. Restart your browser, go to midjourney.com/sign-in, and attempt to log in again.

2. Revoke and Re-Authorize the Midjourney Bot If your Discord account's authentication token is expired or corrupted, the web app cannot pull your subscription details. Revoking the authorization forces a clean handshake.

  1. Open your Discord application or log into Discord in a browser tab.
  2. Click the gear icon (User Settings) next to your username at the bottom left.
  3. In the left-side menu, click on Authorized Apps under the *User Settings* section.
  4. Find Midjourney (or Midjourney Bot) in the list of authorized applications and click Deauthorize.
  5. Navigate back to midjourney.com and click Sign In.
  6. Click Authorize when prompted by Discord to grant permissions again. No subscription or generation history will be lost during this process.

3. Resolve Password Reset Failures Because Midjourney does not have a native password system, you cannot reset a "Midjourney password." If you are trying to change your login credentials, you must do so via Discord.

  1. Go to discord.com/login.
  2. Enter your email address and click Forgot your password?.
  3. Follow the instructions sent to your email inbox to reset your Discord password.
  4. Once reset, log back into the Discord application first, then attempt to sign in to Midjourney's website.

4. Disable Conflicting Browser Extensions and VPNs Privacy-focused browser extensions and active Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) can block the background scripts that Discord uses to pass security tokens to Midjourney.

  1. Temporarily disable any active VPN or proxy service.
  2. Open an Incognito or Private Browsing window.
  3. Manually type midjourney.com/sign-in and try logging in.
  4. If this works, your primary browser profile has an extension (such as an ad blocker, script blocker, or cookie manager) that is blocking the authentication redirects. Disable these extensions one by one to find the culprit.

When to escalate If you have cleared cookies, verified your Discord credentials, and still receive errors like "Failed to authenticate" or "Invalid OAuth2 state," check the official Discord status page (`discordstatus.com`) or the `#status` channel in the Midjourney Discord server to see if authentication servers are down. If all systems are operational and you still cannot log in, contact support by sending an email to `billing@midjourney.com` from the email address registered to your Discord account.
