Midjourney Discord Bot Not Working: Troubleshooting Guide

Updated 9/24/2026

When Midjourney stops working on Discord, it usually presents as a bot that ignores your /imagine prompts, displays red "Interaction failed" error messages, or disappears entirely from your Direct Messages (DMs). Because Midjourney relies heavily on Discord's API infrastructure, discord-specific API shifts or configuration issues are usually to blame.

This guide covers the exact steps required to resolve connection issues, fix integration errors, and restore the Midjourney bot to working order.

1. Fix the "Interaction Failed" Red Error Message This is the most common error on Discord. It means the Discord client timed out waiting for a response from the Midjourney server API.

  1. Wait and Retry: This error is often highly temporary, lasting only 30 to 60 seconds during micro-outages. Wait one minute and attempt the prompt again.
  2. Check Discord API Status: Visit discordstatus.com to see if Discord is experiencing issues with its "interactions" or gateway servers. If Discord's API is degraded, third-party bots cannot respond.
  3. Force Close Discord: Close your Discord desktop app or mobile app completely, clear it from your background processes, and reopen it. This forces a clean handshake with Discord's gateway servers.

2. Unblock the Midjourney Bot in DMs If you usually generate images via Direct Messages but the bot has suddenly stopped responding or your messages are failing to send, your privacy settings or direct message routing may have changed.

  1. Go to your Discord User Settings (the gear icon next to your username).
  2. Navigate to Privacy & Safety.
  3. Scroll down to "Server Privacy Defaults" and ensure that "Allow direct messages from server members" is toggled ON.
  4. If this setting was off, the bot could not message you back.
  5. Go to the official Midjourney server, find the "Midjourney Bot" in the member list on the right side, right-click its name, and select Message. Send a simple test message or run the /info command.

3. Verify Server Slash Commands Permissions If you are trying to use Midjourney on your own private Discord server and the `/imagine` command does not appear or fails to send, the bot likely lacks the necessary channel permissions.

  1. In your server, go to Server Settings > Integrations > Midjourney Bot.
  2. Ensure that Slash Commands are enabled for the Midjourney Bot in the specific channel you are trying to use.
  3. Check the channel's specific permissions: Right-click the channel name > Edit Channel > Permissions.
  4. Verify that "Use Application Commands" and "Send Messages" are set to allowed (green checkmark) for @everyone or specifically for the Midjourney Bot role.
  5. If the bot still fails, kick the bot from your server and re-invite it via your Midjourney dashboard page to restore default permissions.

4. Transition to the Midjourney Web App If Discord is experiencing prolonged outages, or if your local Discord installation is corrupted, you can bypass Discord entirely by using the official Midjourney web interface.

  1. Navigate to midjourney.com and sign in with your Discord account credentials.
  2. If you have generated at least 100 images (or if the web creation beta has rolled out to your tier), you will see an input bar at the top of the home page.
  3. Use the web text box to enter your prompts and generate images directly on the site.
  4. The web interface operates independently of Discord's message gateway, allowing you to bypass bot-specific outages.

5. Check if the Bot is Offline or Banned If the Midjourney Bot has a grey "offline" status circle next to its name or does not appear in the member list at all, the bot may have been temporarily taken offline for maintenance, or your account may have violated community guidelines.

  1. Look at the bot's username in your DM list. If it says "Deleted User" or has no profile picture, your Discord account might have a synchronization issue.
  2. Check your registered email associated with your Midjourney/Discord account for any moderation warnings or suspension notices.
  3. If you suspect your Discord account is glitched, log out of Discord completely, clear your browser cookies, and log back in to force-refresh your server memberships.

When to escalate If you have verified that Discord status is fully operational, you can use other bots on your server, but the Midjourney Bot remains completely unresponsive to your commands, you must check your account billing standing.

Navigate to midjourney.com/account to confirm your subscription has not been suspended for billing failures. If your account is active, use the #member-support channel on the official Midjourney Discord server to ask a moderator to inspect if your Discord ID has been flagged or desynced from the database.
