Midjourney Out of Fast Hours: How to Get More
Updated 10/4/2026
Midjourney uses Fast GPU hours to process your image prompts. Each subscription plan comes with a set allotment of Fast hours per billing cycle. When these hours are completely depleted, your ability to generate images changes dramatically depending on your subscription tier.
If you are on the Basic Plan, image generation stops entirely when your limit is reached. If you are on the Standard, Pro, or Mega plans, your account will default to Relax mode, which allows unlimited generations but features significantly longer queue times.
Here is how to check your usage, switch generation modes, buy more hours, or upgrade your account to resolve this issue.
1. Check your remaining GPU balance Before purchasing more time or changing plans, verify exactly how many Fast hours you have left and when your subscription resets.
- Open Discord and navigate to any server containing the Midjourney Bot, or open your Direct Messages with the bot.
- Type /info in the text box and press Enter.
- The bot will return a profile summary showing your current subscription tier, your remaining Fast time (expressed as a percentage and in absolute hours/minutes), and your subscription renewal date.
- If your "Fast GPU Time Remaining" reads 0.0/15.0 hours (or similar), your allotment is fully exhausted.
2. Switch to Relax Mode (Standard, Pro, and Mega plans) If you are on the Standard ($30/mo), Pro ($60/mo), or Mega ($120/mo) tier, you do not need to pay extra to continue generating images. You can switch to Relax mode, which queued jobs based on system capacity.
- In your message bar with the Midjourney bot, type /relax and press Enter.
- The bot will confirm with a message: "Your generation mode has been set to Relax."
- Alternatively, type /settings and press Enter. Click the Relax Mode button in the interactive menu.
- To switch back once your billing cycle resets, type /fast or toggle it back on in the /settings panel.
*Note: Relax mode is not available on the $10/month Basic Plan. You must buy extra hours or upgrade to keep generating.*
3. Purchase extra Fast GPU hours If you need immediate, high-priority generations and cannot wait for Relax mode queues or your monthly renewal date, you can buy extra Fast hours directly from Midjourney. These hours do not expire as long as you maintain an active subscription.
- Type /buy in the Discord chat window and press Enter.
- Click the personalized link generated by the Midjourney Bot to open the secure payment page.
- Select the number of hours you wish to purchase. Midjourney sells extra Fast hours at a flat rate of $4.00 per hour.
- Complete the checkout process. The purchased hours will be credited to your account instantly. Verify this by typing /info again.
4. Upgrade your subscription plan If you find yourself consistently running out of hours mid-month, upgrading to a higher tier is more cost-effective than buying individual hours.
- Type /subscribe in Discord and open the link provided by the bot to access your account dashboard.
- Toggle between monthly and yearly billing options.
- Choose a plan with more Fast hours (Standard offers 15 hours, Pro offers 30 hours, and Mega offers 60 hours).
- Click Upgrade. Midjourney will prorate your current payment, meaning you only pay the difference for the remainder of your current billing cycle, and your new Fast hours allotment will be credited immediately.
5. Optimize your prompts to conserve hours To avoid hitting your plan limit early in your next billing cycle, change how you generate images: - **Avoid grid upscales:** Every time you click `U1`, `U2`, `U3`, or `U4` in newer Midjourney versions, or use variation buttons, you consume GPU time. Only upscale images you actually plan to use. - **Do not run multiple parallel jobs:** Running multiple prompts simultaneously in Fast mode burns through your hours rapidly. - **Use Relax mode by default:** If you are on an eligible plan, keep `/relax` active for general prompt testing and exploration. Only switch to `/fast` when you need immediate turnarounds or are using features that require Fast mode (such as blending or certain zoom variations).
When to escalate If you purchased extra Fast hours or upgraded your plan, but `/info` still shows zero hours available after 15 minutes, check your credit card or PayPal account to ensure the transaction cleared.
If the payment was processed but your account state has not updated, navigate to the official Midjourney Discord server and post in the #member-support channel, or email billing@midjourney.com with your Discord User ID and invoice number.
