Midjourney Refund Request Failed: How to Fix
Updated 10/5/2026
If you signed up for a Midjourney subscription and realized it is not the right fit, you may want to request a refund. However, many users find that the refund option is unavailable, the system denies their request, or the billing page fails to process the transaction.
Because Midjourney handles billing via Stripe and handles authentication via Discord or Google, refund failures are typically caused by strict usage limits, account discrepancies, or local browser session conflicts. Use this step-by-step troubleshooting guide to resolve the issue.
Step 1: Verify Refund Eligibility Limits
Midjourney’s refund policy is automated and strictly enforced by billing scripts. If you exceed the system's usage thresholds, the option to receive a refund during cancellation will be locked.
- The 20-Minute Limit: You are only eligible for a refund if you have used fewer than 20 GPU minutes (including both Fast and Relaxed generation time) during your current billing cycle.
- How to Check Your Usage: Log into your Discord account, go to any server containing the Midjourney Bot (or your Direct Messages with the bot), and type /info. Press Enter. The bot will return a card showing your "Lifetime Usage" and "Fast Time Remaining." Compare your remaining hours to your plan's starting hours to calculate exactly how many minutes you have consumed.
- If You Are Over the Limit: The automated system will not offer a refund. You can still cancel your subscription to prevent future renewals, but your access will remain active until the end of the current billing period.
Step 2: Trigger the Automated Cancel and Refund Tool
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you must use the self-service portal to process the refund. Simply canceling does not always trigger a refund unless you select the correct option.
- Go to the official [Midjourney Account Page](https://www.midjourney.com/account).
- Click Sign In and authorize the site using the Discord or Google account tied to your active subscription.
- Click the Cancel Plan button next to your active subscription details.
- A dialog box will appear. If you are eligible for a refund, you will see two choices: "Cancel at the end of the period" or "Cancel immediately with a refund."
- Select Cancel immediately with a refund and confirm the prompt.
If the refund option is greyed out or missing entirely, the system has detected that your GPU usage exceeds the 20-minute threshold, or your account status has already transitioned to a pending cancellation state.
Step 3: Resolve Discord/Google Account Mismatches
A common reason for a "subscription not found" or refund failure is logging in with the wrong account. Many users accidentally create secondary Midjourney profiles when authorizing via Discord.
- Open Discord and check the bottom-left corner to confirm your active username.
- In a Discord chat, run the /info command to confirm that the account you are using has the active subscription.
- Log out of the Midjourney website completely.
- Clear your browser cookies or open an Incognito/Private window.
- Log back into midjourney.com/account making sure you authorize the exact same Discord user ID shown in your active Discord client.
Step 4: Fix Stripe Portal and Browser Loading Errors
Sometimes, the billing iframe or Stripe portal fails to load the cancellation dialog due to ad-blockers, tracking protection, or expired session tokens.
- Disable Extensions: Temporarily turn off ad-blockers (like uBlock Origin or AdBlock) and privacy tools (like Privacy Badger) which can block Stripe's verification scripts.
- Switch Browsers: If you are using Safari or Brave, try Chrome or Firefox. Brave's aggressive "Shields" often block the pop-up modal required to finalize the refund.
- Use a Mobile Device: Try logging into the account page on your mobile phone using cellular data rather than local Wi-Fi to rule out router-level DNS blocks.
Step 5: Track Bank Processing Times
If you successfully selected the "Cancel immediately with a refund" option and the page confirmed the action, but you do not see the money, the delay is likely on the banking side.
- Stripe Processing: Midjourney processes refunds instantly through Stripe. However, it takes 5 to 10 business days for the funds to appear on your bank or credit card statement.
- Pending Charges: If you subscribed and refunded within a few hours, the charge may disappear entirely from your statement rather than showing as a credit, as the original pending authorization was simply voided.
When to Escalate
If the system errored out during the refund process, or if you believe you were wrongly charged and the automated system won't help, you must contact Midjourney directly.
- On Discord: Go to the official Midjourney Discord server and locate the #billing-support or #member-support channel. Submitting a ticket here allows community managers and billing staff to verify your Discord ID directly.
- By Email: Send a message to billing@midjourney.com. You must include your Discord username, the email associated with your Discord account, and the date of the transaction. Do not include your full credit card number; only provide the last four digits if requested.
