Midjourney server status: is it down?

Updated 10/9/2026

When Midjourney suddenly stops responding, drops generating jobs mid-render, or throws silent errors, it is difficult to know whether the issue lies on your end, with Discord, or with Midjourney's GPU clusters. Because Midjourney relies on a complex pipeline involving Discord's API, its own generation servers, and its web interface, outages can manifest in several different ways.

This guide explains how to accurately diagnose if Midjourney is down, pinpoint where the service failure is occurring, and resolve local connection issues.

1. Check official status channels Before changing any of your local settings or clearing your cache, check if Midjourney is experiencing a known platform-wide outage.

  • Check the Midjourney Status Page: Visit status.midjourney.com to view live service updates. This dashboard tracks web app availability, generation queue health, and database status.
  • Monitor the Discord #status channel: If you can still access Discord, navigate to the official Midjourney server and look at the #status and #announcements channels. The development team posts real-time updates here when GPU clusters are undergoing maintenance, database migrations, or dealing with unexpected crashes.
  • Check third-party status aggregators: Websites like Downdetector track user-reported outages for Discord and Midjourney. If you see a massive spike in reports within the last hour, the service is likely down for everyone, and you will need to wait for the developers to deploy a fix.

2. Verify Discord gateway health Midjourney is deeply integrated with Discord. If Discord's servers are struggling, Midjourney will fail to receive your `/imagine` prompts or return completed images.

  1. Visit the Discord Status Page: Go to discordstatus.com to see if there are API outages, gateway latency issues, or media delivery failures.
  2. Check latency indicators: In your Discord client, check the voice/connection status indicator in the bottom left corner. If your messages show a clock icon or fail to send entirely, Discord's gateway is congested.
  3. Try the web client: If the Discord desktop or mobile app won't load images, open a browser window, log into discord.com/app, and see if the Midjourney bot responds there. If the web client works, your local Discord client cache is corrupted.

3. Run diagnostic slash commands If the Midjourney bot is online but your images are stuck at "0%" or not starting at all, use built-in diagnostics to isolate your account status.

  1. Type /info in your chat bar and press Enter.
  2. Analyze the response:
  3. If the bot returns your user details immediately, your connection is active.
  4. If you receive an "Interaction Failed" error or no response at all, the Midjourney backend queue is likely frozen or experiencing high latency.
  5. Check your remaining "Fast Hours." If you have run out of fast hours and are in "Relax Mode," your jobs may be queued behind others during peak traffic, making it look like the generator is frozen.

4. Troubleshoot the Midjourney web app If you are using the Midjourney web interface (`midjourney.com`) rather than Discord, and pages are failing to load, throwing 500/502/503 errors, or failing to render images:

  1. Perform a hard refresh: Press Ctrl + F5 (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + R (Mac) to clear out outdated scripts and reload the web assets.
  2. Disable browser extensions: Ad-blockers, script-blockers, and certain VPN extensions can block the WebSockets Midjourney uses to stream real-time generation previews. Disable these extensions temporarily and refresh the page.
  3. Turn off hardware acceleration: Some GPU rendering issues on the web app can be resolved by turning off hardware acceleration in your browser settings (found under Settings > System).

5. Bypass congested Discord channels Sometimes the specific Discord channel or server you are using is experiencing local rate-limiting or rendering lag.

  1. Use Direct Messages (DMs): Go to your Direct Messages and send your /imagine prompts directly to the Midjourney Bot. This bypasses public channel lag.
  2. Create a private server: Create a free personal Discord server, invite the Midjourney Bot to it, and generate images there. This isolates your requests from busy public channels, reducing local client lag.

When to escalate If you have checked `status.midjourney.com` and `discordstatus.com` and both show green lights, but you still cannot generate images after two hours, contact the helper team. Navigate to the official Midjourney Discord server and post your issue in the `#member-support` channel. Provide details such as your subscription status (confirmed via `/info`), the specific error message you are seeing, and whether the issue happens in both DMs and public channels.
