Fix Midjourney Stripe Payment Failed Errors

Updated 10/8/2026

If you are trying to subscribe to Midjourney or upgrade your active plan, encountering a payment failure or Stripe processing error can completely block your creative workflow. Midjourney uses Stripe to handle all subscription billing. When a transaction fails, it is usually due to Stripe's strict automated fraud prevention protocols, local bank verification failures, or incomplete authentication.

This guide will walk you through how to troubleshoot and resolve Midjourney Stripe payment failures.

1. Complete 3D Secure (3DS) Verification Midjourney transactions are processed internationally. Many European, UK, and Asian banks require Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) through 3D Secure protocols before authorizing payments. If your bank redirects to an authorization app or sends a one-time password (OTP) via SMS, and you close the verification screen too quickly, Stripe will automatically block the transaction as unpaid.

  1. Initiate the payment flow again and keep the checkout page active.
  2. Do not navigate away, refresh, or close the browser tab.
  3. Check your mobile device or bank app immediately for a push notification or SMS verification code.
  4. Enter the verification code or approve the transaction in your bank's portal within the allotted time window (usually 2 minutes).
  5. If the verification screen freezes or does not load, disable any active ad-blockers, script-blockers, or popup-blockers in your browser, as these frequently block Stripe's secure redirect popups.

2. Clear Browser Cache or Use Incognito Mode Stripe checkout sessions store temporary data like cookies and local storage tokens to verify your identity. If you have made multiple failed payment attempts, Stripe may temporarily rate-limit or flag your browser session to prevent suspected brute-force card abuse.

  1. Open a new Incognito or Private browsing window in your web browser.
  2. Log in directly to your Midjourney account page at https://www.midjourney.com/account.
  3. Attempt the checkout payment flow again.
  4. If the issue persists, switch to a completely different browser (such as switching from Safari to Google Chrome) or use your mobile phone connected to cellular data to rule out local network routing issues.

3. Verify Billing Address and ZIP Code Accuracy Stripe uses an automated Address Verification System (AVS) to verify cards. If the ZIP code or postal code entered on the Midjourney checkout screen does not match the exact address registered with your credit card issuer, the transaction will be declined automatically.

  1. Log into your banking portal and check the exact formatting of your billing address, including the postal code.
  2. Type the address manually on the Midjourney Stripe checkout form. Do not rely on browser autofill, which can sometimes insert invisible formatting errors.
  3. Turn off any active VPNs. Stripe cross-references your current IP address with your billing country. A geographic mismatch (for example, attempting to pay with a German card while connected to a United States VPN server) can trigger automated fraud prevention filters and cause a decline.

4. Whitelist International Transactions with Your Bank Midjourney is a digital subscription service registered in the United States. Many domestic banks automatically block foreign transactions, online subscription services, or digital goods purchases under standard security policies.

  1. Call your bank's fraud prevention or customer service department.
  2. Tell the representative you are trying to make an international online purchase from "Midjourney" via "Stripe."
  3. Request that they temporarily lift any automated security holds on your card for international digital service payments.
  4. Ask them to whitelist the merchant ID for future automatic monthly renewals.

5. Use an Alternative Payment Method If Stripe continues to reject your card, you may need to use a different payment method supported by Stripe's infrastructure.

  1. Stripe supports alternative digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay depending on your location. Use a compatible browser (Safari for Apple Pay, Chrome for Google Pay) to see if these checkout options appear.
  2. Switch to a standard credit or debit card issued by a major network (Visa, Mastercard, or American Express).
  3. Avoid using prepaid cards, gift cards, or virtual card generation services (such as Privacy.com), as Stripe frequently flags or blocks these types of cards to prevent subscription abuse.

When to escalate If your bank confirms that the funds are available and the transaction was approved on their end, but Midjourney still shows a "failed" status or your subscription is not active, do not attempt to pay multiple times. This can result in multiple pending authorizations on your bank statement.

In this situation, the webhook communication between Stripe and Midjourney's database has failed. Contact Midjourney's billing support team directly by emailing billing@midjourney.com or by posting in the #billing-support Discord channel in the official Midjourney server. Provide your Discord username, account email, and the Stripe transaction ID or invoice number.
