Midjourney Text in Image Not Working: How to Fix

Updated 10/5/2026

Why Midjourney Fails to Generate Text Correctly

Midjourney Version 6 (v6) introduced the ability to write text inside generated images. However, because diffusion models process images as a whole rather than processing text character-by-character, text generation frequently fails. You might experience scrambled lettering, extra characters, missing words, or Midjourney ignoring your text instructions entirely.

This behavior occurs because the AI prioritizes artistic style and composition over spelling rules. If your settings or prompt structures are not configured correctly, the model defaults to treating your requested text as decorative pattern elements rather than readable characters.

How to Fix Midjourney Text Generation Issues

Follow these troubleshooting steps to correct garbled text, spelling errors, and missing letters in your Midjourney outputs.

1. Force the Model to Midjourney v6 Text generation is not supported in Midjourney v5.2 or earlier versions. If your account settings reverted to an older model during an update or server disruption, your text prompts will generate random gibberish.

  1. Open your Discord chat with the Midjourney Bot or your private server.
  2. Type /settings in the message box and press Enter.
  3. Look at the model selection buttons. Ensure Midjourney Model V6 is highlighted.
  4. Alternatively, manually add the parameter --v 6 to the very end of your text prompt to force v6 execution.

2. Use Correct Quotation Mark Syntax Midjourney requires explicit formatting to recognize that a sequence of characters is meant to be written text rather than a visual description.

  • Incorrect: A neon sign that says Welcome to Miami.
  • Correct: A neon sign with the text "Welcome to Miami" written on it --v 6.

Always place the target text inside straight double quotes ("text"). Avoid curly or smart quotes (which often occur when copying and pasting from mobile devices), as the parser may fail to read them. Do not use single quotes or parentheses for text generation.

3. Lower the Stylize Parameter The stylize parameter (`--s` or `--stylize`) controls how strongly Midjourney applies its default artistic training. High stylize values (e.g., `--s 250` to `--s 1000`) prioritize aesthetics over prompt compliance, causing the model to warp letters into ornamental designs.

  1. Add --style raw to your prompt. This tells the model to follow your text prompt literally rather than adding default Midjourney styling.
  2. Lower your stylize value. Append --s 50 or --s 0 to your prompt.
  3. Example structure: A minimalist logo that says "NEXUS" --style raw --s 50 --v 6

4. Isolate the Text in Your Prompt If your prompt contains too many descriptive details, Midjourney suffers from prompt bleed and forgets to render the text. Keep the prompt clean and place the text request at the very beginning of the prompt.

  • Too complex: A beautiful cozy coffee shop in Seattle during autumn with rain on the window, and a wooden sign hanging on the brick wall outside that says "Open Daily" in gold letters.
  • Optimized: A wooden sign that says "Open Daily" in gold lettering. The sign is on a brick wall of a cozy coffee shop during autumn, rainy day outside --v 6.

5. Use the Vary (Region) Tool for Minor Typos If Midjourney generates a perfect image but misspells one or two letters in your text, do not reroll the entire prompt. Instead, use the inpainting tool to fix the specific text area.

  1. Select the image variation you want to edit from your grid.
  2. Click the Vary (Region) button below the upscaled image to open the editor.
  3. Use the lasso or rectangle tool to select only the area containing the misspelled text.
  4. In the prompt editor box at the bottom, re-emphasize the exact text: The text "OPEN" written in gold --v 6.
  5. Submit the job. Midjourney will regenerate only the selected box, preserving the rest of your image.

When to Escalate

If Midjourney continues to render gibberish even with simple prompts like A block letter sign spelling "CAT" --v 6 --style raw, check for official platform issues.

  • Check the status channel: Look at the #status channel in the official Midjourney Discord server to verify if there is a known bug with the current v6 model deployment.
  • Ask the community: Use the #member-support channel in Discord to post your exact prompt. Other users can help identify if a specific word in your prompt is triggering a soft-block or filtering bug that breaks text rendering.
