ChatGPT Verification Email Not Sending? Here's the Fix

Updated 10/3/2026

When creating a new OpenAI account, resetting your password, or logging in from a new device, ChatGPT requires email verification. If the verification email never arrives, you are locked out of the service. This issue is typically caused by aggressive email filters, localized browser cache errors, or temporary delays in OpenAI's automated dispatch systems.

Follow these troubleshooting steps to locate the missing email or bypass the delivery blocks keeping you out of your account.

1. Inspect Spam, Junk, and Promotional Tabs

Transactional emails from automated services are frequently flagged as spam or promotions by major email clients.

  1. Open your email client (Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, etc.).
  2. Open the Spam or Junk folder. If using Gmail, check both the Promotions and Social tabs.
  3. Search for emails from noreply@tm.openai.com or noreply@openaiprod.gserviceaccount.com.
  4. If you find the email in Spam, mark it as "Not Spam" or "Not Junk" to ensure future delivery of transactional emails.

2. Search for Specific OpenAI Sender Addresses

Sometimes emails bypass the inbox due to custom filters, archive rules, or accidental swipes. Use your email client's global search bar to look for specific identifiers.

  • Search for: from:openai.com
  • Search for: from:auth0.com (OpenAI uses Auth0 for identity verification)
  • Search keywords: "Verify your email", "OpenAI", "ChatGPT reset", or "OpenAI Verification".

Ensure your search covers "All Mail" rather than just your inbox.

3. Bypass Verification with OAuth Social Sign-In

If you are trying to sign up or log in using an email address associated with Google, Microsoft, or Apple, you can bypass the standard email-and-password verification flow entirely.

  1. Go to the ChatGPT login page.
  2. Do not type your email address into the input field.
  3. Click Continue with Google, Continue with Microsoft Account, or Continue with Apple.
  4. Log in using your third-party account credentials.

If you previously signed up using one of these OAuth providers, trying to log in with a password will trigger a verification loop. Logging in directly through the social provider bypasses the need for an email verification code.

4. Whitelist OpenAI's Email Domains

If your email provider uses strict security protocols (common with corporate, academic, or private custom domains), the email may be blocked at the server level before it even reaches your spam folder. Adding OpenAI to your safe senders list can resolve this.

Add the following domains to your email contact list or whitelist rules: * openai.com * customer-communications.openai.com * openaiprod.gserviceaccount.com

In Gmail, you can do this by going to Settings > See all settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses > Create a new filter, and pasting the domains into the "From" field, then selecting "Never send it to Spam."

5. Force a New Request via Incognito Mode

Local browser cache can sometimes prevent the "Resend Email" button from sending a real, server-side trigger to OpenAI.

  1. Open a new private or incognito window in your web browser.
  2. Navigate directly to chat.openai.com.
  3. Try to log in or sign up again.
  4. Click Resend Email on the verification screen.
  5. Wait at least 5 minutes before checking your inbox to allow the server to process the fresh request.

6. Check for Email Delivery Outages

If OpenAI's email delivery infrastructure (typically managed via third-party systems like Mailgun or SendGrid) is experiencing a backlog, email delivery will be delayed.

  1. Go to the official [OpenAI Status Page](https://status.openai.com/).
  2. Check for any reported incidents involving "API," "Login," or "Authentication."
  3. If an outage is active, wait for the status to show "Resolved" before requesting another verification email.

When to Escalate

If you have completed all the steps above and still do not receive the email, your email address may have been placed on an internal suppression list due to a previous delivery failure.

Go to help.openai.com, click the chat bubble icon in the bottom right corner, and select Account & Billing > Other Account Issues. Inform the automated assistant that you are not receiving verification emails. They will escalate the ticket to a human support agent who can manually verify your account or clear your address from their email blocklist.
