ChatGPT Verification Email Not Sending: How to Fix
Updated 10/15/2026
When creating a new OpenAI account, resetting a password, or confirming a login from a new device, you must click a verification link sent to your email. If that confirmation email never arrives, you are completely locked out of ChatGPT.
This delivery failure is usually caused by aggressive spam filters, local browser caching bugs that halt the send request, or email routing blocks at the domain level (common with corporate and academic addresses). Use this step-by-step troubleshooting guide to locate the email, unblock your inbox, or bypass the verification step entirely.
1. Inspect Spam, Junk, and Filter Categories
Automated transactional emails from systems like OpenAI are frequently misidentified as spam or promotions.
- Open your email client and go to your Spam or Junk folder.
- If you use Gmail, check the Promotions, Updates, and Social tabs.
- Search your inbox globally using the query from:openai.com or subject:verify.
- Check if your inbox is full. If your email account has exceeded its storage quota, new incoming emails will bounce back to OpenAI's servers without notifying you.
2. Add OpenAI to Your Safe Senders List
Many email providers block OpenAI's sending domains before the messages even reach your junk folder. Whitelisting these addresses tells your email server to allow them through.
- Go to your email settings (e.g., Outlook's "Safe Senders" or Gmail's "Filters and Blocked Addresses").
- Add the following domains and specific addresses to your whitelist/safe list:
- noreply@tm.openai.com
- customer-communications@openai.com
- @openai.com
- Once added, return to the ChatGPT sign-in page and click Resend email.
3. Clear Browser Cache or Use Incognito Mode
Sometimes, your browser sends a corrupted session state to OpenAI, causing the platform to claim an email was sent when the server-side action was actually blocked. Clearing your browser's local cache resolves this mismatch.
- Open your browser's settings and clear your browsing data, specifically Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
- Alternatively, open a private browsing window (Incognito mode in Chrome, Private Window in Firefox/Safari).
- Navigate back to the ChatGPT login screen, log in with your credentials, and request the verification email again.
4. Bypass Verification via Social Sign-In (OAuth)
If your email host continuously blocks OpenAI's automated emails, you can bypass the traditional email-and-password verification flow by using an OAuth provider. This links your OpenAI account directly to your Google, Microsoft, or Apple account, eliminating the need for email-based link confirmation.
- Go to the ChatGPT signup or login page.
- Instead of typing your email address into the input field, click one of the social sign-in buttons:
- Continue with Google
- Continue with Microsoft Account
- Continue with Apple
- Authenticate directly through that third-party service. This creates or accesses your account instantly without sending a separate verification email.
*Note: This only works if the email address linked to your social account matches the email address you originally tried to register with OpenAI.*
5. Switch to a Personal Email Address
If you are using a corporate, school, or government email address, security firewalls (like Mimecast, Barracuda, or Proofpoint) may be silently dropping OpenAI's verification emails at the server level. You will have no way of retrieving these from your personal interface.
- Register a new account using a major public email provider (such as Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo Mail).
- These consumer providers are optimized to receive high volumes of automated automated verification links without dropping them at the gateway level.
When to Escalate
If you have tried all of the above steps and still cannot receive a verification or password reset email, you may have an account suspension or a database sync error on OpenAI's side.
To escalate this issue, visit the official [OpenAI Help Center](https://help.openai.com). Click the chat bubble in the bottom right corner of the page to open the automated support bot. Select Account or Billing and explain that your verification emails are failing to arrive. If you have a paid ChatGPT Plus subscription linked to the unverified email, make sure to mention that so they can manually verify your identity or process a refund.
