Claude not responding today? How to check if Claude is down

What's happening

Claude sitting on a spinner or failing mid-reply is usually an upstream incident, not your account.

Fix it

1. Open the official Anthropic status page and look for an active incident affecting Claude.ai.
2. Try a brand new chat — a single corrupted conversation can hang while the rest of the app is fine.
3. Switch network (mobile data vs Wi-Fi) to rule out a local DNS or proxy problem.
4. Hard refresh the browser tab, or force-quit and reopen the mobile app.
5. If other users report the same symptoms at the same time, it is an outage — wait it out rather than resending.

If the status page is green and a new chat in a private window still fails, clear site data for claude.ai and sign in again.
