Fix Claude Blank White Screen | Loading Issues
Updated 9/14/2026
When Anthropic resolves an outage or deploys a hotfix to the Claude web application (claude.ai), users occasionally experience a persistent blank white screen. This occurs because your web browser is trying to load cached, outdated single-page application (SPA) scripts, or because the browser's local state contains corrupted session tokens that the updated front-end code cannot parse.
Rather than waiting for the cache to expire naturally, you can force your browser to fetch the clean, updated interface using the following steps.
Step 1: Perform a Hard Reload A standard reload (`F5` or the refresh button) will often load from the local cache. A hard reload forces the browser to bypass the cache and download the latest files from Anthropic's servers.
- Windows / Linux Chrome, Edge, & Firefox: Press Ctrl + F5, or hold down Ctrl and click the Reload button.
- Mac Chrome & Firefox: Press Cmd + Shift + R, or hold down Shift and click the Reload button.
- Mac Safari: Press Option + Cmd + E to empty the cache, then press Cmd + R to reload.
If the screen is still blank, proceed to the next step to clear corrupted site data.
Step 2: Clear Application Data for Claude.ai If local storage or cookies contain old configuration values from the period of the outage, the site may crash silently before rendering. You must wipe the application storage specifically for Claude without deleting all your other browser cookies.
On Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Brave: 1. Open `claude.ai` in your browser. 2. Right-click anywhere on the blank page and select **Inspect** to open Developer Tools. 3. Click on the **Application** tab at the top of the developer panel (you may need to click the `>>` icon to reveal it). 4. In the left-hand sidebar, click on **Storage**. 5. Click the **Clear site data** button in the main panel. 6. Close Developer Tools and reload the page.
On Mozilla Firefox: 1. Click the padlock icon to the left of `claude.ai` in the URL bar. 2. Click **Clear cookies and site data...** 3. In the popup window, click **Remove**. 4. Reload the page.
Step 3: Unregister Stale Service Workers Claude uses Service Workers to cache assets for faster loading. During platform updates, these background workers can become orphaned, serving broken pages even after you clear your normal cache.
- In Chrome, Edge, or Brave, open Developer Tools (F12).
- Navigate to the Application tab.
- In the left panel, click on Service Workers.
- Locate the service worker registered for claude.ai.
- Click Unregister on the right side of the screen.
- Check the Bypass for network box at the top of the panel.
- Refresh the page.
Step 4: Test in Incognito Mode and Disable Extensions Browser extensions (especially adblockers, script-blockers, or grammar checkers) can conflict with Claude’s updated security protocols, leading to an empty page.
- Open a new private or incognito window in your browser.
- Navigate to https://claude.ai.
- If the page loads successfully, an extension is blocking the site.
- Turn off your extensions one by one, reloading Claude after each, to identify the culprit. Pay close attention to extensions that manipulate page headers, inject scripts, or block cookies.
When to escalate If you have performed a hard reload, cleared all site data, unregistered service workers, and still see a blank page in incognito mode across multiple devices (including mobile), the issue may be a regional CDN propagation delay or an IP-level block by Anthropic's firewall. Contact Anthropic Support by emailing `support@anthropic.com` or through their support portal. Inform them of your operating system, browser version, regional location, and any Javascript errors appearing in the Developer Tools **Console** tab.
