Claude Operational But Not Loading: Troubleshooting Guide
Updated 9/12/2026
It is frustrating when Anthropic's status page (status.anthropic.com) claims "All Systems Operational," yet Claude remains stuck on a blank screen, a loading spinner, or refuses to accept prompts. This discrepancy occurs because status pages run on independent monitoring networks and only update when broad regional outages are verified.
If you are experiencing a "silent" outage or a localized routing error, use this guide to identify the root cause and bypass the loading failure.
Why the Status Page and Your Experience Do Not Match Status dashboards rely on automated ping tests from specific global datacenters. If a localized content delivery network (CDN) node goes down, or if your local DNS cache is pointing to a degraded server, Claude will be inaccessible to you even if Anthropic’s central servers are running perfectly.
1. Test via an Incognito Window to Bypass Local Cache Your browser caching system can sometimes store a broken script or corrupted session token, causing Claude to fail on load while the status page remains green.
- Open your browser and launch an Incognito or Private Browsing window.
- Navigate directly to https://claude.ai.
- Attempt to log in.
If this works, your primary browser profile has cached corrupted local storage files or service workers. Clear your cache by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Del (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + BackSpace (Mac) and deleting your cached images and files for the past 24 hours.
2. Hard-Reload and Clear Service Workers Claude uses background scripts called Service Workers to manage offline capabilities and caching. If a service worker crashes, the web app will freeze on a blank screen.
- On the stuck claude.ai page, open your browser’s Developer Tools by pressing F12 (or Cmd + Option + I on Mac).
- Go to the Application tab (Chrome/Edge/Brave) or the Storage tab (Firefox).
- In the left sidebar, click on Service Workers.
- Locate the service worker for claude.ai and click Unregister or Stop.
- Next, click on Storage in the same left panel, and click Clear site data.
- Reload the page with Ctrl + F5 / Cmd + Shift + R.
3. Force a New DNS Resolution Path If your local Internet Service Provider (ISP) has misconfigured DNS routing for Anthropic's domain, your browser will fail to establish a handshake. Switching to a public DNS provider resolves this.
- Open your operating system's network configuration settings.
- Locate your active Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection and select Properties.
- Edit your IP settings (IPv4) and change the DNS server addresses to use Google Public DNS or Cloudflare DNS:
- Cloudflare DNS: Primary 1.1.1.1 | Secondary 1.0.0.1
- Google DNS: Primary 8.8.8.8 | Secondary 8.8.4.4
- Save the settings, open your terminal/command prompt, run ipconfig /flushdns (Windows) or sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder (Mac), and reload Claude.
4. Check for Account-Specific Flags vs. Global Outages Sometimes, a silent failure to load is not a network outage but an account-specific lock or security restriction.
To rule this out: 1. Turn off your Wi-Fi and connect your computer to your mobile phone’s cellular hotspot. 2. Try loading Claude on a completely different device, such as your phone, using cellular data. 3. If Claude loads on cellular but not on Wi-Fi, your home/office network IP has been temporarily rate-limited or flagged by Anthropic’s Cloudflare firewall.
When to Escalate If you have confirmed that Claude will not load on any network, device, or incognito session, and the official status page still reads "Operational," you are likely caught in a newly developing outage. Check community forums like Reddit (`r/ClaudeAI`) or DownDetector to see if other users are reporting the same issue. If community reports spike, wait 15–30 minutes for Anthropic's engineering team to update the official status dashboard and deploy a server patch.
