Fix Claude.ai Blank White Screen Loading Error

Updated 8/21/2026

Opening Claude.ai only to be greeted by a completely blank, white screen is a common issue. It usually occurs when your browser fails to load the essential JavaScript bundles, CSS files, or API configurations required to render the application user interface. This is typically caused by a corrupted browser cache, an outdated service worker, or a localized CDN deployment mismatch during a platform update.

This troubleshooting guide will walk you through the precise technical steps needed to clear out cached application state and force your browser to pull fresh, functioning assets from the servers.

1. Perform a Hard Refresh

A standard browser reload often pulls files from your local storage to save bandwidth, which perpetuates the blank screen if those files are corrupted.

  • For Google Chrome, Brave, and Edge (Windows): Press Ctrl + F5 or hold Ctrl and click the "Reload" button.
  • For Google Chrome, Brave, and Edge (macOS): Press Cmd + Shift + R or hold Shift and click the "Reload" button.
  • For Mozilla Firefox: Press Ctrl + F5 (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + R (macOS).
  • For Apple Safari: Hold Shift and click the "Reload" button in the address bar.

2. Unregister Claude Service Workers

Claude uses background scripts called Service Workers to manage caching and offline capability. If a service worker is caught in an infinite loop or fails to update during a code deployment, it will serve broken assets, resulting in a blank screen.

To manually unregister the service worker in Chrome, Edge, or Brave:

  1. Navigate to Claude.ai (even if it is blank).
  2. Right-click anywhere on the page and select Inspect to open Developer Tools.
  3. Click on the Application tab at the top of the developer panel (you may need to click the >> double-arrow icon to find it).
  4. In the left sidebar, click on Service Workers.
  5. Locate the service worker listed for claude.ai and click Unregister on the right.
  6. Reload the browser page.

3. Clear Site-Specific Data and Cookies

If unregistering the service worker does not work, local storage files may be out of sync. Clearing site-specific data resets the local environment without affecting your history on other websites.

  1. While on the blank Claude.ai page, click the lock or settings icon to the left of the URL in your address bar.
  2. Select Site settings or Cookies and site data.
  3. Click Manage on-device site data or Clear data.
  4. Delete all stored data for the domain.
  5. Close the tab, open a new one, and navigate back to the site.

4. Test in an Incognito Window or Disable Extensions

Browser extensions, especially ad-blockers, privacy shields, and script managers, can block essential tracking or utility scripts that the application requires to launch.

  1. Open an Incognito / Private Browsing window.
  2. Navigate to Claude.ai and log in.
  3. If the page loads correctly, a browser extension is causing the conflict.
  4. To isolate the culprit, go to your browser's extensions manager and toggle them off one by one, reloading Claude after each change until the site loads properly.

When to Escalate

If you have performed a hard refresh, cleared site data, unregistered service workers, and verified the site works on a secondary device (like a phone), but the blank screen persists on your primary computer, check your local security settings. Enterprise firewalls or local antivirus software may be blocking static assets hosted on third-party CDNs. Contact your IT administrator or security software provider to white-list traffic originating from *.claude.ai and *.anthropic.com.
