How to Request a Refund for Claude Pro Subscription

Updated 8/15/2026

Whether you subscribed to Claude Pro accidentally, experienced persistent service outages, or simply decided the service isn't right for you, you may want to request a refund.

Because Anthropic is an independent service provider, refund eligibility is governed strictly by their Terms of Service and regional consumer protection laws. Here is a clear guide on how their refund policy works and how to officially request your money back.

Understand Anthropic's refund policy Before submitting a request, it is important to know if you qualify for a refund: * **Standard Policy:** Under Anthropic's standard Terms of Service, all subscription fees for Claude Pro are non-refundable. When you cancel, you will retain access to the Pro features until the end of your current billing cycle, but no prorated refund will be issued. * **EU, UK, and Turkey Residents:** If you live in the European Union, United Kingdom, or Turkey, you are legally entitled to a "cooling-off period." You can request a full refund within 14 days of your initial subscription signup, provided you have not excessively used the service during those 14 days. * **Technical Failures/Double Charges:** If you were charged twice in a single month due to a system error, or if the service was completely unusable for an extended period immediately after subscribing, Anthropic will typically issue a refund upon review.

Step 1: Cancel your subscription to avoid future charges To ensure you are not charged again while your refund request is pending, cancel your active subscription immediately. 1. Log into your account at **Claude.ai**. 2. Click on your profile icon in the bottom-left corner and select **Settings**. 3. Navigate to the **Billing** tab. 4. Click **Cancel Plan** and confirm your choice.

Step 2: Access the official support portal Anthropic does not process refund requests over social media, public forums, or standard email. You must submit your request through their official support portal. 1. Go to [support.anthropic.com](https://support.anthropic.com). 2. Look for the chat widget icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. 3. Click the widget to open the conversational support assistant.

Step 3: Submit your refund request Once the support widget is open, navigate through the automated options to route your request to the billing department: 1. Select **Billing & Subscriptions** (or a similar category) from the initial menu. 2. Select **Request a Refund**. 3. Provide the requested details, including: * The email address linked to your Claude.ai account. * The Stripe invoice ID or charge ID (found in the receipt emailed to you from Stripe/Anthropic). * The date of the transaction. * Your geographic location (especially if you are invoking EU/UK 14-day cancellation rights). * A brief explanation of why you are requesting a refund (e.g., "Accidental duplicate charge" or "EU cooling-off period refund request").

Step 4: Monitor your email and bank statement Once submitted, the Anthropic support team will review your case. * **Response Time:** It typically takes 3 to 7 business days to receive a response from billing support due to high volume. * **Processing Time:** If your refund is approved, the funds will be sent back to the original payment method. Stripe refunds generally take 5 to 10 business days to appear on your bank statement or credit card ledger.

When to escalate If more than 7 business days have passed without a response to your support ticket, do not open multiple new tickets, as this can delay response times by pushing you to the back of the queue. Instead, reply directly to the confirmation email you received when you first submitted your request to ask for an update.

*Note: If you initiate a chargeback or dispute through your bank or credit card company before contacting support, Anthropic will permanently ban your account, and the dispute resolution process can take up to 90 days.*
