Midjourney Connection Error: Quick Outage Fixes
Updated 10/17/2026
If Midjourney is down, won't load, or is stuck on image generations, the issue is typically caused by a platform-wide outage, a Discord API disruption, or localized browser cache conflicts. Because Midjourney operates across both a web interface and Discord, diagnosing the exact point of failure is key to restoring service.
Follow these sequential troubleshooting steps to verify the service status and resolve connection, loading, and generation issues.
1. Verify Midjourney and Discord Server Status
Before changing any local settings, confirm if the outage is on Midjourney’s end.
- Check the Midjourney Discord: Open the official Midjourney Discord server and navigate to the #status channel. The development team posts real-time updates regarding planned database maintenance, GPU cluster outages, or web app migrations here.
- Check Discord's API Status: Midjourney relies heavily on Discord's infrastructure. Visit discordstatus.com to see if "Bot API" or "Gateway" services are experiencing degradation. If Discord is down, the Midjourney bot will not process prompts.
- Monitor Community Feedback: Check the #announcements or #trial-support channels. If hundreds of users are reporting identical issues (such as blank responses or stuck jobs), the service is experiencing an outage and you must wait for a server-side fix.
2. Resolve HTTP 500, 502, and 503 Errors
If you are attempting to use the Midjourney web showcase or alpha editor and encounter 500 (Internal Server Error), 502 (Bad Gateway), or 503 (Service Unavailable) codes, the connection between your browser and the Midjourney servers is failing.
- Perform a Hard Refresh: Force your browser to bypass its local cache. On Windows, press Ctrl + F5. On macOS, press Cmd + Shift + R.
- Clear Site-Specific Data: Click the lock icon in your browser's address bar next to the Midjourney URL. Select Site settings or Cookies and site data, then click Clear data. Restart your browser.
- Temporarily Disable VPNs and Proxies: Midjourney uses Cloudflare to prevent DDoS attacks. If your VPN is routing traffic through a blacklisted IP address, Cloudflare may block your connection with a 503 or 500 error. Disable your VPN and try reloading the page.
3. Troubleshoot Stuck Generations and Blank Responses
If your /imagine prompts are stuck at 0%, waiting to start, or returning blank black boxes, use these steps to reset your active job queue.
- Cancel the Stuck Job: Locate the stuck generation in your Discord feed. React to the message using the red "X" envelope emoji (✉️ or ❌). This sends a command to the bot to cancel and purge the active job from the queue.
- Toggle Generation Modes: Switch your generation speed setting to clear any stuck states in your account profile. Type /relax in the chat bar and press Enter. Try a simple prompt. If it works, switch back by typing /fast.
- Verify Your Subscription Status: If your subscription has silently expired or failed to renew, your jobs will fail to start without a clear error message. Type /info in any authorized channel to verify your remaining Fast Hours and active subscription tier.
4. Fix Discord Bot Unresponsiveness
If the Midjourney bot is completely ignoring your /imagine commands or showing "Interaction Failed" errors in your private server, the bot connection has desynced.
- Check Channel Permissions: Ensure the channel you are using has the correct permissions. The Midjourney bot requires Read Messages, Send Messages, Embed Links, and Use Application Commands enabled in that specific channel's settings.
- Re-authorize the Bot: If you are using a private server, kick the Midjourney bot. Go to the official Midjourney server, click the bot's profile card in the user list, and click Add to Server to re-invite it with fresh permissions.
- Test in Direct Messages (DMs): Try sending your prompt directly to the Midjourney Bot via direct message. If DMs work but your server does not, the issue lies with your Discord server's permissions, not Midjourney's API.
When to Escalate
If you have confirmed that both Midjourney and Discord servers are operational, but you still experience persistent loading loops, blank responses, or account status failures across all devices, open a support ticket. Go to the #member-support channel in the official Midjourney Discord server and describe your issue. If you cannot access Discord, contact billing and account support directly by emailing billing@midjourney.com using the email address associated with your Discord account.
