Grok API Magic Link Not Arriving? How to Fix

Updated 10/19/2026

To access the xAI developer console and manage your Grok API keys, billing, and subscription plans, you must use a passwordless "magic link" sent directly to your email. If this email fails to arrive, you cannot access your account or API resources.

This issue usually stems from email server filtering, domain suppression lists, or browser session conflicts between your standard X (formerly Twitter) account and the developer portal. Follow these steps to resolve the issue and receive your login link.

1. Search Your Mailbox for the Correct Sender

The magic link email does not come from a "Grok" sender address. It is sent from the xAI developer infrastructure.

  • Check your Spam, Junk, Promotions, and Clutter folders.
  • Use your email client's search bar to search for: noreply@x.ai or auth.x.ai.
  • Search for the exact subject line: "Sign in to xAI".

If you are using a corporate email account, check your quarantine folder or ask your IT administrator if emails from the x.ai domain are being held at the gateway level.

2. Clear Session Cookies and Use an Incognito Window

Sometimes, an active browser session with X.com conflicts with the authentication mechanism of the xAI developer console (ide.x.ai). This can cause the console to silently fail to trigger the email dispatch.

  1. Open a new private or incognito browsing window.
  2. Go directly to [ide.x.ai](https://ide.x.ai).
  3. Enter your email address and request the link again.

Using an incognito window ensures that cached cookies, active sessions, and third-party browser extensions (like ad blockers or privacy guards) do not interfere with the authentication request script.

3. Whitelist the xAI Domain in Your Email Client

If your email provider uses aggressive spam filters, it may drop the magic link silently before it reaches your spam folder. To prevent this, add the xAI sending domain to your safe senders list.

  • For Gmail: Go to Settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses > Create a new filter. In the "From" field, type @x.ai, click "Create filter," and check "Never send it to Spam."
  • For Outlook/Hotmail: Go to Settings > Junk email > Safe senders and domains. Add x.ai and auth.x.ai to the list.
  • For Corporate/Google Workspace Admin: Ensure your organization's email firewall is not blocking transactional emails from the IP addresses associated with xAI's email delivery network.

4. Verify Your Sign-in Method (X OAuth vs. Direct Email)

If you originally registered your developer account using your X (Twitter) credentials, attempting to log in via the direct email field on the console can cause delivery failure if the email addresses do not match exactly.

  1. Go to the login page at ide.x.ai.
  2. Instead of typing your email into the text field, click the Sign in with X button (if available).
  3. If you must use email, ensure you are entering the exact primary email address associated with your X profile, including matching any specific capitalization or alias formats.

5. Check for Email Suppression List Blocks

If you previously marked an email from xAI, X, or their associated services as spam, your email address may have been added to a global "suppression list" by the transactional email provider xAI uses.

When an address is suppressed, the system status will show "sent" on xAI's side, but the mail carrier will refuse to even attempt delivery. To fix this, you must contact xAI support to have your email address manually removed from their suppression queue.

When to Escalate

If you have completed all the steps above and still do not receive the magic link within 15 minutes, the xAI authentication system may be experiencing a service outage or your account may be locked.

Since xAI does not offer a direct telephone support line, you should gather your account details (your X handle, the email address you are attempting to use, and the approximate times you requested the links) and contact them through the @xai or @Grok accounts on X, or submit a support ticket via the help link on the main [x.ai](https://x.ai) portal if you can access any billing receipts containing support contact information.
