Grok Not Showing Up After X Premium Purchase: How to Fix
Updated 10/15/2026
Purchasing an X Premium or Premium+ subscription is supposed to grant immediate access to xAI’s Grok assistant. However, many users find that the Grok icon is missing from their sidebar, or they are still prompted to subscribe when trying to open the chat interface.
This delay is typically caused by session caching issues, payment processing lag between the app store and X, or regional restrictions. Use the following troubleshooting steps to force your account to update and unlock Grok.
Why Grok Doesn't Show Up Immediately When you upgrade your X account, the billing platform (Stripe, Apple App Store, or Google Play Store) must successfully process the transaction and push a verification status to X’s user database. This database then updates your account flags to enable Premium-tier features.
If this sync lags, or if your local browser or app session holds cached data from before the purchase, the interface will continue to block your access to Grok.
Step 1: Force Sync Your X Account Session The most reliable way to force X to check your current subscription status is to terminate your active session and log back in. This requests a fresh authentication token containing your updated subscription flag.
- Open X on your web browser or mobile app.
- Navigate to your profile settings. On web, click the More (three dots) icon, then select Settings and privacy. On mobile, tap your profile icon at the top left, select Settings and Support, then Settings and privacy.
- Click or tap Your account and select Account information.
- Select Log out.
- Close your web browser tab or force-close the mobile app completely from your device's active apps menu.
- Reopen X and log back in with your username and password.
- Check the left-hand sidebar (on web) or the bottom navigation bar/side menu (on mobile) to see if the Grok tab is now visible.
Step 2: Clear Browser Cache and Cookies (Web Users) Corrupted local storage or cached service workers can prevent the web interface from updating its layout and displaying new navigation elements.
- On Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Brave, press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + Delete (Mac).
- Set the time range to All time.
- Check the boxes next to Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
- Click Clear data.
- Alternatively, to clear only X data: click the padlock icon in your browser's address bar while on x.com, select Site settings, and click Clear data.
- Reload the page and sign back in.
Step 3: Verify Your Subscription Tier and Status Grok access is only included in specific subscription tiers. If your payment did not process correctly, or if you purchased the wrong tier, Grok will remain locked.
- Navigate to Settings and privacy > Premium on X.
- Ensure your active plan is either Premium or Premium+. Note that the lowest tier, "Basic," does not include access to Grok.
- If you subscribed via iOS or Android, open your phone's native subscription settings (Apple ID settings on iPhone, or Google Play Store Subscriptions on Android).
- Check if the payment status is marked as Active. If it is marked as "Pending," "Declined," or "Failed," X will not provision Grok until the app store successfully processes the charge.
Step 4: Check VPN and Regional Restrictions Grok is not yet available in every country. If your account settings or physical IP address indicate you are in an unsupported region, the Grok option will be completely hidden.
- Disable any active VPNs, proxy servers, or custom DNS configurations on your device.
- Go to Settings and privacy > Your account > Account information and check the Country listed.
- If your physical location does not match your account country, or if you are physically located in an unsupported territory, Grok will remain inaccessible despite an active Premium subscription.
Step 5: Update the Mobile App If you are using the mobile app and cannot find Grok, your current app version might predate the integration of Grok features or contain a bug affecting UI elements.
- Open the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on your device.
- Search for "X" (formerly Twitter).
- If an Update button is available, tap it to install the latest version.
- Launch the app and repeat the log-out/log-in process outlined in Step 1 to refresh the user interface.
When to Escalate If your payment is confirmed as successful, your subscription status displays as Premium or Premium+, you are in a supported region, and you have cleared your cache and re-logged, your account flag is likely stuck on the backend.
Because Grok access is tied directly to your X subscription, you must contact X's billing support rather than xAI directly. Go to the X Help Center (help.x.com), select Purchases and Subscriptions, and submit a support ticket indicating that your Premium features have failed to provision. Provide your transaction ID or app store receipt to expedite the resolution.
