Is Midjourney Down? How to Fix Status and Load Errors
Updated 10/12/2026
When Midjourney stops responding, fails to load, or hangs indefinitely on a prompt, the issue is typically split between Midjourney's image generation clusters, Discord's API gateways, or your local web cache. Because Midjourney relies heavily on Discord's infrastructure alongside its own web application, a failure in either pipeline can halt your workflow.
Use this diagnostic guide to determine if Midjourney is down for everyone, identify specific API server errors, and resolve local rendering issues.
Step 1: Isolate a Local Issue vs. a Global Outage Before changing any settings, verify where the failure is occurring. Midjourney runs on two main interfaces: the Discord bot/server and the Midjourney web app.
- Test across platforms: If you are using the Discord desktop client, open a web browser and try generating on the official Midjourney web site (midjourney.com). If the web interface works but Discord fails, the issue is likely a Discord API bottleneck or bot outage.
- Check the Midjourney Status Page: Navigate to status.midjourney.com. This dashboard displays real-time uptime metrics for the Web App, Image Generation clusters, and Database services. If any of these show a red "Outage" or orange "Degraded Performance" bar, the problem is server-side.
- Check the Discord Status: Go to discordstatus.com. Midjourney cannot process slash commands (/imagine) if Discord's interaction service or gateway servers are experiencing high latency or outages.
Step 2: Check the Midjourney Discord Status Channel When global outages occur, the status page may take a few minutes to update. The fastest source of truth is the community server.
- Open your Discord app and navigate to the official Midjourney Discord Server.
- Locate the #status channel under the info category.
- Review the pinned messages. System administrators post immediate updates here during unexpected database migrations, GPU cluster failures, or scheduled maintenance windows.
- Check the #announcements channel for scheduled downtime warnings.
Step 3: Troubleshoot 500, 502, and 503 Gateway Errors If you are trying to access the Midjourney web showcase, gallery, or web editor and encounter 500-series server errors, the web servers are struggling to communicate with the backend API.
- Error 500 (Internal Server Error): The server encountered an unexpected condition. This is almost always a backend database crash on Midjourney's side. Wait 10 minutes and reload.
- Error 502 (Bad Gateway) & 503 (Service Unavailable): These errors typically mean Cloudflare (Midjourney's content delivery network) cannot establish a connection to Midjourney's origin servers. This occurs during peak traffic times when new model versions (e.g., v6, v7) launch.
- The Fix: Force-refresh your browser to bypass cached error pages. On Windows, press Ctrl + F5. On macOS, press Cmd + Shift + R. If you are on a mobile device, clear your browser's history and cache via the system settings menu.
Step 4: Resolve Stuck Generations and Blank Responses If the interface loads but your prompts are stuck at "0%" or fail to return an image, your account session or queue may be bottlenecked.
- Cancel the Stuck Job: If you are in Discord, find the stuck generation and click the Red X (Cancel) emoji reaction. Alternatively, right-click the message and select "Add Reaction," then search for :x:. This frees up your concurrent job limit.
- Switch Generation Modes: If your Fast hours are exhausted, your Relaxed generations may queue behind thousands of others. Type /fast to switch back to fast mode (if you have hours left) and see if the generation completes instantly.
- Reset the Bot Connection: If the Midjourney bot is entirely unresponsive in a private Direct Message (DM) or a personal server, kick the bot from your server and re-invite it via the member list on the official Midjourney server. Alternatively, use the main #general or #newbies channels to test if the bot responds globally.
Step 5: Flush Local DNS and Clear App Cache If the official status channels report that everything is operational, but Midjourney remains blank or refuses to load for you, a corrupted local DNS cache or corrupted local storage is likely the cause.
- Clear Discord Cache (Desktop): Close Discord completely. Navigate to %appdata%/discord on Windows or ~/Library/Application Support/discord on macOS, and delete the Cache and Code Cache folders. Restart Discord.
- Flush DNS: Open your system terminal (Command Prompt on Windows or Terminal on macOS) and run the flush command:
- Windows: ipconfig /flushdns
- macOS: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
- Disable VPNs: Midjourney's security layers sometimes flag and temporarily block public VPN IP addresses to prevent automated scraping. Turn off your VPN and try reloading the page.
When to Escalate If both `status.midjourney.com` and Discord are fully operational, but your account still receives blank responses, cannot run slash commands, or fails to log in, your account may have a billing or moderation hold. Go to the official Midjourney Discord and post in the **#member-support** channel. A community guide or helper can verify if your account subscription status is active and manually check for hidden backend errors associated with your Discord ID.
