Grok Not Loading on Web Browser: How to Fix

Updated 10/13/2026

When Grok won't load or displays a blank, unresponsive screen in your web browser, it can be difficult to tell whether xAI is experiencing a platform-wide outage or if the issue is local to your device. Because Grok is deeply integrated with the X (formerly Twitter) platform and relies on real-time data streaming, minor browser conflicts or network blocks can break the interface completely.

Use this step-by-step troubleshooting guide to isolate the cause, bypass common network blocks, and get the Grok interface loading properly again.

1. Verify if xAI or X is experiencing an outage Before changing any browser settings, determine if the issue is on your end or if the service is down globally. Grok relies on both X's frontend delivery systems and xAI's backend model servers.

  • Check active community reports: Since there is no official public status page for Grok, search the hashtag #GrokDown or check real-time posts on X to see if other users are reporting identical loading failures.
  • Check X platform status: Use third-party monitoring sites like Downdetector to see if X.com is experiencing wider infrastructure issues. If X is down or slow, Grok's interface will fail to load.
  • Monitor official updates: Check the official @grok and @xai accounts on X for any announcements regarding scheduled maintenance or unexpected database outages.

2. Perform a hard refresh and clear local storage Your browser saves static files and scripts to speed up load times. If xAI pushes a backend update while your browser is running cached scripts, it can cause the interface to freeze or fail to load.

To bypass the cache and force a complete reload of the application: * Chrome, Edge, and Brave (Windows): Press Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R. * Chrome and Brave (Mac): Press Cmd + Shift + R. * Safari (Mac): Hold the Shift key and click the Reload button in the address bar. * Firefox: Press Ctrl + F5 (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + R (Mac).

If a hard refresh doesn't work, clear the site's cookies and local database storage: 1. Click the lock icon to the left of the URL in your address bar. 2. Select Site settings or Cookies and site data. 3. Click Clear data or delete all cookies associated with x.com and grok.com. 4. Restart your browser and log back in to test.

3. Disable extensions blocking WebSockets Grok uses WebSockets and Server-Sent Events (SSE) to stream text responses to your browser in real time. Many privacy-focused extensions, ad-blockers, and script-disablers mistake these active streams for background trackers and block them.

  1. Open a new Incognito or Private Browsing window (which usually runs without extensions enabled).
  2. Navigate to Grok and log in.
  3. If Grok loads and functions correctly, one of your browser extensions is blocking the service.
  4. Return to your standard browser window and open your Extensions manager.
  5. Temporarily disable any ad-blockers (such as uBlock Origin or AdBlock Plus), tracker blockers (such as Privacy Badger), or script managers (such as Tampermonkey).
  6. Whitelist x.com and grok.com in your extension settings, then re-enable them.

4. Check for DNS and local network blocks Some internet service providers (ISPs), school networks, or corporate firewalls restrict access to real-time generative AI endpoints or X's subdomains.

To test and bypass network-level blocks: * Switch networks: Disconnect from your local Wi-Fi and connect your computer to a mobile hotspot. If Grok loads on the cellular network, your primary network is blocking the connection. * Change your DNS servers: Default ISP DNS servers can lag or fail to resolve newly deployed Grok API subdomains. Switch your system or browser DNS to a public provider like Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1). * Configure your VPN: If you are using a VPN, X's security firewalls may have flagged and blocked your VPN's IP address. Try turning off your VPN, or switching to a different server location before refreshing the Grok page.

5. Resolve account-specific authentication errors Sometimes the web interface hangs because your login token has expired on the server but is still showing as valid in your local browser storage. This results in a loading loop where the interface cannot fetch your profile or subscription status.

  1. Go to your main X account settings and select Log out.
  2. Clear your browser's history and cookies for the last 24 hours.
  3. Restart your computer to clear any lingering network sockets.
  4. Log back in to your X account and navigate directly to the Grok tab.

When to escalate If you have cleared your cache, verified that X is online, disabled your extensions, and Grok still refuses to load, the issue may be related to your subscription status. Check your X Premium or Premium+ billing details to confirm your subscription is active and has not lapsed due to a failed payment.

If your billing is correct but you still cannot load the interface, submit a support request through the X Help Center under "Premium Features Support," as your account configuration may require manual correction on xAI's backend.
