Grok Not Working on X App? How to Fix It Quickly

Updated 10/16/2026

If you open X (formerly Twitter) on your mobile device, tap the Grok tab, and get nothing but a blank screen, a spinning loading icon, or an immediate crash, you are not alone. Because Grok is deeply integrated into the X mobile app ecosystem, backend issues with X, cached session tokens, or pending app updates can completely break the interface.

This troubleshooting guide provides practical, step-by-step solutions to get Grok working again on your iOS or Android X app.

1. Verify X and Grok Server Status Before troubleshooting your local device, ensure the problem isn't a widespread server outage. Because Grok does not have a standalone status page, its uptime is tied directly to X's infrastructure.

  1. Visit third-party monitoring sites like Downdetector and search for "Twitter" or "X".
  2. Check X's official support handle (@Support or @Safety) on a desktop browser or via your mobile browser.
  3. Perform a quick search on the X platform for "Grok down" or "Grok not working" using your browser's private/incognito mode to see if other Premium users are reporting similar issues.

If it is a global outage, you must wait for xAI and X engineers to deploy a server-side fix.

2. Force Close the X App and Clear Cache A corrupted app state or bad memory allocation can cause the Grok tab to hang indefinitely. Clearing the app from your RAM forces X to re-initialize its connection to Grok's API.

For Android Users: 1. Long-press the X app icon on your home screen or app drawer. 2. Tap App info (the "i" icon). 3. Tap Force stop and confirm. 4. Go to Storage & cache (or Storage). 5. Tap Clear cache. Do not tap "Clear storage" unless you are prepared to log in again. 6. Relaunch X and try Grok.

For iOS Users: 1. Swipe up from the bottom of your home screen (or double-tap the Home button) to open the App Switcher. 2. Swipe up on the X app card to close it completely. 3. Go to your iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage. 4. Scroll down and select X. 5. Tap Offload App (this frees up storage while keeping your documents and data). 6. Tap Reinstall App from the same screen.

3. Log Out and Sign Back In Your Grok access token is tied to your X Premium subscription. If X's authentication servers failed to refresh your credentials, Grok may refuse to load or display error screens.

  1. Open X and tap your profile picture in the top left.
  2. Scroll down and tap Settings and Support, then select Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Your account > Account information.
  4. Tap Log out and confirm.
  5. Restart your device to clear any remaining temporary memory.
  6. Open X, log back in, and test the Grok tab.

4. Check Your X Premium Subscription State Grok is only available to X Premium and Premium+ subscribers. If your subscription recently expired, failed to auto-renew, or had a billing dispute, Grok will instantly stop loading.

  1. Tap your profile picture in the X app.
  2. Tap Premium to check your subscription status.
  3. If you subscribed via Apple App Store or Google Play, open your phone's subscription management page to confirm the payment was successfully processed.
  4. If your payment is pending or declined, update your payment method. Grok access will resume once X receives payment confirmation.

5. Update or Reinstall X xAI frequently rolls out backend updates to Grok that require the latest API handshakes. If you are running an older version of X, the app's embedded Grok browser wrapper will fail to load.

  1. Open the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS).
  2. Search for "X" or "Twitter".
  3. If an Update button is available, tap it.
  4. If the app is already updated, uninstall the X app entirely.
  5. Restart your phone, download X fresh from the app store, and sign back in.

6. Access Grok via Web Browser as a Workaround If the mobile app is completely unresponsive, you can isolate whether the bug is device-specific or account-specific by using a web browser.

  1. Open Safari, Chrome, or Firefox on your mobile device or desktop.
  2. Navigate to https://x.com/i/grok.
  3. Log in with your X credentials.

If Grok works fine in the browser, the issue is strictly localized to your X mobile app installation. If the browser also fails to load Grok, your account may be experiencing a backend provision issue.

When to Escalate If you have completed all of the steps above and Grok still fails to load on both the mobile app and the web interface, your account's Premium permissions might be glitched. You should open a ticket with X Support. Provide them with screenshots of your active subscription and the specific error message you see when attempting to load Grok.
