Grok Stuck on Loading Screen? How to Fix the Loading Loop

Updated 10/12/2026

When Grok gets stuck on an infinite loading screen or displaying a persistent spinning wheel, it usually indicates a broken WebSocket connection, cached authentication token corruption, or a local browser extension blocking the script. Because Grok runs within the larger X (Twitter) infrastructure and as a standalone interface, resolving the issue requires testing both platform-specific and browser-level configurations.

Follow these troubleshooting steps to bypass the loading loop and restore your connection to Grok.

1. Verify if Grok is Experiencing an Outage Before changing local settings, check if the issue is a widespread backend outage. xAI does not maintain a public status page, but you can confirm status through alternative routes: 1. **Check the X Search Bar:** Search for `"Grok down"` or `#GrokDown` on X. Filter by "Latest" to see if other Premium users are reporting the same loading loop. 2. **Check Third-Party Trackers:** Look at Downdetector for "Twitter" or "X". Since Grok shares X’s infrastructure, platform-wide API issues directly impact Grok’s ability to load.

If other users are reporting the issue, the backend server is likely processing an update or experiencing database latency. You will need to wait for xAI to deploy a hotfix.

2. Hard Refresh and Bypass Local Cache A standard browser refresh often loads files from your local cache, retaining the corrupted state that caused the loading hang. * **Windows (Chrome, Edge, Firefox):** Press `Ctrl` + `F5` or `Ctrl` + `Shift` + `R`. * **Mac (Safari, Chrome, Firefox):** Press `Cmd` + `Shift` + `R` (or hold `Shift` and click the browser's Reload icon).

If a hard refresh fails to break the loop, clear the specific site data for X: 1. In Chrome or Edge, click the lock icon next to the URL (x.com or grok.x.ai). 2. Select Site settings or Cookies and site data. 3. Click Manage on-device site data and delete all saved cookies and local storage. 4. Restart your browser and log back in.

3. Disable Interfering Extensions (Adblockers & VPNs) Grok relies on real-time WebSocket traffic to stream responses and load UI assets. Content blockers and privacy extensions frequently misidentify these WebSockets as trackers and block them, leaving the page in an infinite loading state. 1. Open your browser in **Incognito / Private Browsing Mode** (which typically disables extensions by default). 2. Navigate to Grok and try to launch a prompt. 3. If it loads instantly, one of your extensions is blocking the connection. 4. Temporarily disable active adblockers (like uBlock Origin, AdBlock Plus) or privacy tools (like Privacy Badger). 5. Whitelist `x.com` and `grok.x.ai` in your extension settings.

If you are using a VPN, disconnect or switch servers. X utilizes strict cloud firewalls; some VPN IP ranges trigger automated security rate limits, resulting in a silent block that stalls the Grok interface.

4. Reset DNS and Clear Local Network Cache An outdated local Domain Name System (DNS) cache can route your Grok requests to an decommissioned server IP address, causing requests to hang indefinitely.

On Windows: 1. Press the Windows Key, type cmd, and open Command Prompt as Administrator. 2. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter. 3. Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter. 4. Restart your PC.

On macOS: 1. Open Terminal. 2. Type sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder and press Enter. 3. Enter your system password to complete the process.

5. Force App Reset on iOS and Android If Grok is stuck on a spinning wheel inside the official X mobile application, clear the active runtime memory: * **iOS:** Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to open the App Switcher. Swipe the X app up and off the screen to force close it. Reopen the app. * **Android:** Go to **Settings** > **Apps** > **X** > **Force Stop**. Tap **Storage & Cache**, then tap **Clear Cache** (do not select "Clear Data" unless you are prepared to log in again).

When to Escalate If you have cleared your cache, disabled extensions, verified your network, and Grok remains stuck loading while other users report it is working, your account's subscription handshake might be out of sync.

Directly contact platform developers by posting your system details (browser version, OS, and screenshots of any red console errors found by pressing F12 > Console) to the [@Premium](https://x.com/Premium) or [@Support](https://x.com/Support) accounts on X.
