Midjourney Card Declined: How to Fix Payment Errors

Updated 10/12/2026

Midjourney uses Stripe to manage all subscription processing and billing. If you receive a "Card Declined" or "Your card was declined" error while trying to buy or renew a subscription, the transaction was blocked either by your card issuer or Stripe's automated fraud-prevention systems.

Because Midjourney does not process payments directly, fixing this issue requires addressing the specific verification checkpoints that trigger the decline.

1. Verify and Enable International Transactions

Midjourney is a US-based entity, and its merchant transactions are processed via Stripe. If you are located outside the United States, your bank may automatically flag and block the transaction as a security measure.

  1. Log in to your bank's mobile app or online banking portal.
  2. Navigate to your card control, security, or limit settings.
  3. Locate the toggle for "International Transactions," "Cross-Border Payments," or "Online Transactions" and ensure it is enabled.
  4. If you cannot find this setting, call the customer service phone number on the back of your card. Inform the representative that you are attempting an online purchase from Midjourney and ask them to temporarily or permanently whitelist transactions from this merchant.

2. Check and Correct Address Verification (AVS) Mismatches

Stripe runs your billing address through the Address Verification System (AVS). If the postal code or address details you input on the checkout page do not match what your bank has on file, the payment will be rejected.

  1. Open your online banking app and copy your exact billing address format down to the capitalization, spacing, and punctuation.
  2. Go back to the Midjourney subscription screen and input the address exactly as shown on your bank statement.
  3. Pay close attention to the ZIP or postal code. If you have recently moved, the billing system may still reject your new address; in this case, try entering your previous billing address.

3. Resolve 3D Secure (3DS) and SCA Authentication Failures

For users located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or other regions implementing Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), your bank requires multi-factor authentication (3D Secure) to authorize online payments. If this pop-up window is blocked or fails to load, the payment fails immediately.

  1. Disable any active ad-blockers, script-blockers, or privacy extensions (such as uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger) in your web browser, as these often mistake the 3DS verification frame for a tracking popup.
  2. Ensure your mobile phone is reachable and has a cellular signal. Your bank will often send an SMS verification code or require you to approve the transaction inside your bank's app within a short timeout period.
  3. Try completing the checkout in a private or incognito browsing tab to prevent cached scripts from interfering with the 3DS redirect.

4. Clear Browser Cache or Switch Devices

Stripe's embedded checkout forms can occasionally cache expired session data, leading to instant payment failures without contacting your bank.

  1. Clear your browser's cache and cookies specifically for midjourney.com and stripe.com.
  2. Switch to a completely different browser (such as switching from Chrome to Firefox or Safari).
  3. If you are using a desktop computer, try subscribing on a mobile device using your cellular data network. This bypasses any local network security, custom DNS settings, or firewall configurations that might block Stripe's secure verification domains.

5. Use Link by Stripe or an Alternative Payment Method

If standard card entry continues to fail, you can bypass the manual entry pipeline by using Stripe's pre-verified systems or alternative payment pathways.

  1. Look for the "Link" payment option on the checkout page. Link is Stripe's secure checkout network. If you save your card details there, Stripe processes the payment through pre-verified credentials, which reduces the chance of a bank decline.
  2. Try utilizing mobile wallets like Apple Pay or Google Pay if they are displayed during the checkout process. These services use tokenized device accounts that banks trust highly, reducing security declines.
  3. Consider using a virtual credit card service (such as Privacy.com or Revolut) to generate a temporary card configured specifically for online subscriptions.

When to escalate

If you have confirmed with your bank that no block exists on your card and you still cannot complete the payment, the transaction might be blocked by Stripe's internal risk engine.

To escalate this issue: 1. Open Discord and go to the official Midjourney server. 2. Navigate to the #billing-support or #member-support channel. 3. Type /billing to open a private support portal, or follow the instructions pinned in those channels to open a billing-specific ticket. 4. You can also email billing@midjourney.com directly from the email address linked to your Discord account. Provide the last 4 digits of the card, the cardholder's name, and the exact date and time of the failed transaction attempt. Do not email your full card number or CVV.
