Fix: Midjourney subscription upgrade not working
Updated 10/14/2026
If you are trying to upgrade your Midjourney subscription but the billing page keeps looping, refuses to process your payment, or fails to register your new plan level, you are likely experiencing a session sync mismatch. Midjourney relies heavily on Discord OAuth tokens and Stripe to process upgrades. When these third-party connections fail to sync, your account state remains stuck on your old tier or basic plan.
Use this step-by-step troubleshooting guide to resolve payment processing errors, session mismatches, and upgrade failures.
Step 1: Verify Your Discord Account Match
The most common reason a subscription upgrade fails to reflect on your account is that you have accidentally upgraded a different Discord account. This happens when your default web browser is logged into a different Discord account than the one you are using in the Discord desktop or mobile app.
- Open Discord and type /info in any server or direct message with the Midjourney Bot.
- Note your unique User ID displayed in the bot's response.
- Open your web browser, go to midjourney.com/account, and sign in.
- Click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner and verify that the User ID shown matches the ID from step 2.
- If the IDs do not match, log out of the website, log out of Discord in that browser, and sign back in using the correct Discord account credentials before attempting the upgrade again.
Step 2: Bypass Embedded Browser Blocks
If you initiated the upgrade process using the /subscribe command from within the Discord mobile app or desktop app, the billing portal may load inside an embedded web view. These embedded browsers often block the pop-ups and redirects required by Stripe for 3D Secure card authentication (such as sending a verification code via SMS from your bank).
- Run the /subscribe command in Discord.
- Instead of completing the payment in the pop-up window, click the Open Link button to force it into your system’s default browser (such as Chrome, Safari, or Firefox).
- Turn off any active VPNs or ad-blockers for this billing session, as they frequently interfere with Stripe’s fraud detection scripts.
- Complete the transaction in the external browser.
Step 3: Clear Stuck Billing Sessions
If the billing page hangs on a loading spinner or displays an error stating that a checkout session is already active, your browser’s cache has cached a stale Stripe checkout token.
- Log out of midjourney.com.
- Clear your browser’s cookies and cache specifically for midjourney.com and stripe.com.
- Open a new Incognito / Private Browsing window.
- Go directly to midjourney.com/signin, authorize through Discord, and navigate to the Manage Sub page to retry the upgrade.
Step 4: Force a Manual Sync via the Bot
Sometimes Stripe successfully processes your payment, but Midjourney's database does not instantly update your subscription status. You can force the Midjourney Bot to check for updated billing records.
- Go to Discord and locate the Midjourney Bot.
- Send the /info command.
- This command triggers an active API call to the account database, forcing a sync between your active Discord session and your billing profile.
- If the subscription status does not update to your new plan immediately, log out of the Midjourney web showcase page and log back in to force a cookie refresh.
When to Escalate
If your card has been charged but your plan remains unupgraded after 30 minutes, or if you are receiving an explicit Stripe billing error that prevents checkout, you will need manual database correction.
Do not attempt to pay multiple times to avoid duplicate charges. Instead, gather your Discord User ID and the Stripe Invoice ID (found in your email receipt) and reach out to Midjourney billing support directly: * Send an email detailing the issue to billing@midjourney.com. * Alternatively, visit the official Midjourney Discord server and post a message in the #billing-support channel to have a community moderator escalate your ticket.
